  • Fort Carson Our Electric Operations and Construction team is hiring a journey or Master Electrician to join our team as a Service Line Electrician.
In this position, you will support the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electric distribution service lines, including our streetlight emergency response, maintenance, and repair program of work on Fort Carson. This role will also be involved with responding to service requests tied to dropping overhead and underground secondary electrical systems so that work can be performed safely and reestablishing service lines. This position will report directly to the Fort Carson Operations and Construction team, working onsite daily at the Mountain Post. The starting pay rate for a Service Line Technician is $53.60/hr. Once the selected candidate has successfully completed probation (typically 6 months) the rate of pay will be adjusted to $56.29/hr. What you will be doing… Laying pipe, pulling wire, and setting meters Constructing, maintaining, and testing secondary electrical systems and related equipment Repairing, maintaining, removing, and troubleshooting street light systems, poles, luminaries, circuits Working with various voltages up to 480v in the residential, commercial, arterial, and freeway street lighting systems Switching or rerouting secondary electrical systems using proper sequencing and connections. Metering underground pedestal hook-ups, disconnecting, and reconnecting services in pad-mounted transformers and j-boxes Removal of and troubleshooting secondary electrical systems with testing equipment and aerial equipment Operating line construction vehicles and equipment including wirepullers, bucket and boom trucks, and various hand tools. Climbing poles and ladders, hooking up services and street light feeds Must be adaptable, flexible, and forward thinking to continue to support Fort Carson's current operations and maintenance practices to best industry standards. What you can expect working at Fort Carson... The service line electrician will help perform and assist in the activities related to the construction, operations, and maintenance of the Fort Carson electric distribution system and transformer-fed streetlights. Under the Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA), Colorado Springs Utilities is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of Fort Carson's electric, gas, water and wastewater infrastructure. Pursuant to the IGSA, this position will support operations and maintenance of Fort Carson's existing electric substations, distribution system up to and including switchgear, transformers, and streetlights fed from transformers in accordance with utilities' best practices. This position will be part of an electric team that is responsible for managing the construction and maintenance of new developments, commercial construction, outage response, and providing construction crew oversight in both overhead and underground applications at Fort Carson under the IGSA. You will work onsite at Fort Carson but may be called to support Colorado Springs Utilities' electric transmission and distribution system construction crews in the event a major emergency is transpiring, and more resources are needed. Within this role, you will be part of a team who is responsible for a wide variety of technical duties and will ensure that all activities adhere to Colorado Springs Utilities Safety Rules and Construction Standards. Additionally, the position requires regular interaction with numerous internal and external customers as well as, proficient management of resources, equipment, and personnel to ensure the successful completion, performance, and review of the electric work. Who you are… Qualified applicants must be a journey or Master Electrician to qualify for this position. A valid driver's license is required. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred, or the ability to obtain and maintain within 6 months of hire. Must be willing and able to climb poles. Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work. Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
