As a 1099 subcontractor, you'll operate with autonomy, taking on dispatched installation jobs on a flexible schedule that fits your availability. Your role is essential to delivering a smooth, professional installation experience for homeowners receiving whole-home filtration, under-sink drinking systems, and related water treatment equipment. This is a great fit for a licensed plumber or experienced installer who wants steady, flexible work without being tied to a single employer. Duties
Install whole-home filtration systems, under-sink drinking water systems, and related water treatment equipment at residential job sites according to manufacturer specifications and local plumbing codes
Travel to assigned job sites within the Wayne County service area (including Canton, Plymouth, Livonia, and surrounding communities) to complete dispatched installs
Use hand tools, power tools, and standard plumbing equipment to connect filtration systems to existing water lines, including installations in basements and crawlspace homes
Assess each job site's setup (city water vs. well water, basement vs. crawlspace, existing plumbing configuration) to determine the right installation approach before starting work
Receive and safely store shipped filtration equipment/inventory until the scheduled install date unless otherwise told, systems may be shipped direct to installation site.
Complete installs efficiently within the expected timeframe (typically 2-4 hours per standard install; 5-8 hours for crawlspace or repiping jobs)
Interact directly with homeowners on-site, explaining the installation process and ensuring a positive, professional customer experience
Provide proof of completed work (photos and/or a signed install form) after each job for quality assurance and warranty tracking
Communicate availability and capacity clearly so jobs can be scheduled efficiently Requirements
Experience installing residential plumbing or water filtration/treatment systems (licensed plumbers, journeymen, and experienced installers all encouraged to apply)
Comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule as a 1099 subcontractor
Own reliable transportation and basic hand/power tools; valid driver's license required
Familiarity with both city water and well water setups, and comfortable working in basements or crawlspaces
Knowledge of local Michigan plumbing codes and safe installation practices
Ability to lift and handle equipment as needed for installs
Strong communication skills for interacting professionally with homeowners
Willingness to store shipped filtration equipment between receipt and install date
Michigan plumbing license preferred but not required; must be able to demonstrate relevant installation experience This is a 1099 independent contractor position meaning no benefits or guaranteed hours are provided, and pay is structured per completed install.
If you're looking for flexible, well-paying work installing water filtration systems on your own schedule, we'd love to hear from you.
