Job Description

Jeffrey Burke Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Jeffrey Burke Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is seeking an experienced, driven and highly motivated Service Plumbing Supervisor to lead and support our plumbing service team for our family business. This position is designed for someone who is more than an experienced plumber. We are looking for a natural leader who understands how to motivate people, establish accountability, coach technicians and help a growing service department perform at the highest level. The right person understands that leadership means showing up, setting the example and providing the team with the direction and support they need to succeed. This individual must also understand the business side of service plumbing, including customer experience, productivity, job profitability, technician performance and departmental growth. Position Overview The Service Plumbing Supervisor will oversee the daily performance of our service plumbing department. This person will work closely with technicians, dispatchers, office staff and company leadership to ensure jobs are completed professionally, efficiently and profitably. The supervisor will help technicians improve their technical abilities, communication skills, customer relationships and overall performance. This person must be comfortable making decisions, addressing problems directly and maintaining high standards across the department. This is an active leadership position—not a desk-only management role. The supervisor must remain accessible to technicians, assist with difficult jobs and maintain awareness of the department's daily operations. Primary Responsibilities Lead, motivate and support the service plumbing team. Conduct daily check-ins and maintain consistent communication with technicians. Provide technical assistance and field support when needed. Coach technicians on plumbing knowledge, customer communication, job presentation and professionalism. Review technician notes, photographs, estimates and completed-job documentation. Ensure jobs are properly started, updated and completed within the company's system. Monitor open jobs, pending estimates, callbacks and required return visits. Help technicians accurately diagnose plumbing problems and present appropriate repair or replacement options. Ensure customers receive clear, honest and confident explanations. Maintain high standards for workmanship, cleanliness, communication and customer service. Review technician productivity, job performance, average ticket, closing rates and customer satisfaction. Work with dispatch and office staff to improve scheduling and technician utilization. Help manage emergency, after-hours and priority service calls. Ensure technicians arrive prepared with the necessary materials, equipment and job information. Monitor truck cleanliness, organization, inventory and required photographs. Reduce preventable callbacks through training, job review and quality control. Address performance or behavioral concerns promptly, professionally and consistently. Assist with hiring, onboarding, training and evaluating service technicians. Conduct individual coaching sessions and team training meetings. Reinforce company procedures, safety requirements and service standards. Help establish departmental goals and create plans for achieving them. Understand job costing, labor expenses, material costs and service profitability. Communicate departmental needs and concerns directly to company ownership. Promote a positive, accountable and team-oriented work environment. Leadership Expectations The person selected for this position must understand that leadership is earned through consistency, accountability and action. Our Service Plumbing Supervisor must be someone who: Leads by example. Arrives prepared and follows through on commitments. Remains calm and confident under pressure. Motivates employees without avoiding accountability. Knows how to coach—not just criticize. Recognizes good performance and addresses poor performance. Builds trust by being consistent and dependable. Supports technicians while still maintaining company standards. Communicates clearly with the field, office and ownership. Makes decisions based on facts, safety and the best interests of the customer and company. Understands the urgency required in a service business. Recognizes that plumbing is a 24/7 industry and is willing to respond when leadership support is needed. Takes ownership of problems and follows them through to resolution. A 24/7 business mentality does not mean working every hour of every day. It means understanding that customers can experience emergencies at any time and that a strong leader remains responsible, reachable and prepared when important situations arise. Required Qualifications Significant residential service plumbing experience. Previous supervisory, management or team-leadership experience. Strong technical knowledge of plumbing systems, service diagnostics and repairs. Proven ability to coach, motivate and hold employees accountable. Strong customer-service and communication skills. Ability to review estimates, technician notes and job documentation. Understanding of labor costs, materials, pricing and job profitability. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple technicians, jobs and priorities. Professional appearance and conduct. Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Ability to use service-management software, smartphones, email and digital documentation. Willingness to participate in emergency and after-hours leadership coverage when required. Preferred Qualifications New Jersey plumbing license or advanced plumbing credentials. Experience managing a residential plumbing service department. Experience with technician performance metrics and service-business reporting. Experience recruiting, onboarding and training plumbing technicians. Knowledge of plumbing codes, permits, inspections and safety requirements. Experience developing service procedures and training programs. What Success Looks Like The successful Service Plumbing Supervisor will create a department where: Technicians understand what is expected of them. Employees receive consistent coaching and support. Customers receive professional and confident service. Jobs are properly documented and completed. Estimates and follow-up work do not fall through the cracks. Trucks remain clean, organized and prepared. Callbacks are reduced. Technician performance improves. Communication between the field and office is consistent. The team feels supported while remaining accountable. The plumbing department grows responsibly and profitably.
