Job Description
Location Requirement:
The successful candidate must live near - within 10 miles of - the Washington Dulles, DC airport (IAD) and be able to travel throughout the surrounding areas. The independent contractor must also be willing to attend 1 week of paid training in Dulles, VA.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated part-time independent contractor to provide automotive windshield repair and restoration services, including headlamps. In addition, the successful candidate will provide residential/commercial glass repair and restoration services. This role involves assessing damage, performing repairs, restoring glass surfaces, and promoting services to new and existing customers (e.g., car dealerships, builders).
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection and Assessment:
Evaluate glass damage - including cracks, chips, scratches, and stains - to determine appropriate repair methods.
Automotive Glass Repair:
Use specialized tools and techniques (e.g., resin injection, chip/crack repair, scratch removal) to restore windshield integrity and clarity.
Headlamp Restoration:
Use techniques to resurface and polish headlamps, restoring clarity and increasing safety.
Residential/Commercial Glass Restoration:
Repair and polish windows, shower doors, and other glass surfaces to meet safety and aesthetic standards.
Customer Service & Sales:
Explain findings, recommend solutions, provide estimates, build relationships, and promote services to grow customer accounts.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of assessments, completed work, and invoicing.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct post-repair inspections to ensure work meets standards and customer expectations.
Safety:
Follow all safety protocols, PPE guidelines, and industry best practices.
Equipment Care:
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
Continuous Learning:
Stay current with repair technologies; attend training as needed.
Qualifications:
Self-starter with proven sales/progressive leadership experience Ability to present services to new and potential customers (e.g., car dealerships, builders). Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills. Familiarity with glass/windshield repair tools, drills, sanding, and general manual dexterity. High attention to detail and precision. Ability to work independently and efficiently. Knowledge of industry safety protocols. High school diploma or equivalent (additional education a plus). Previous windshield or glass repair experience preferred. Physically able to work outdoors in varying, and extreme, weather conditions.
Additional Requirements:
Reliable transportation. Ability to consistently seek, pitch, gain approval for, complete, and invoice repair and restoration opportunities. Attendance at paid, hands-on training during the first few weeks/months. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after training. Certifications in glass repair/restoration are a plus. The specific duties and qualifications may vary based on the employer's requirements and the scope of the position.
