Construction Laborer J C Baldwin Construction Company Carlsbad, CA Job Details Full-time $25 - $35 an hour 16 hours ago Benefits Paid training Paid time off On-the-job training Retirement plan Tools provided Qualifications Rebar installation Outdoor work experience Heavy equipment operation Power tools Mechanical knowledge Full Job Description Construction Laborer J.C. Baldwin Construction Co. Carlsbad, CA | Full-Time Local San Diego County Work J.C. Baldwin Construction is a specialized general engineering contractor serving Southern California. Since 1976, we have built a reputation for taking on difficult projects involving coastal bluff stabilization and seawall construction, landslide repair and slope stabilization, shoring, foundations, specialty excavation and grading, and more. We are looking for dependable, hard-working Construction Laborers who want to learn the trade and become part of a skilled construction crew. This is not a position where you will do the same task every day. As a small company, everyone wears several hats. In a single week, you may be tying reinforcing steel, handling material, supporting drill operations, mixing grout, placing concrete or shotcrete, building forms, setting up erosion control, working from scaffolding, cleaning up the site, and assisting experienced craft workers and equipment operators. Much of our work takes place on hillsides, bluffs, slopes, and other difficult-access sites. This is physically demanding construction work on real terrain. We are looking for people who take pride in working hard, stay productive throughout the day, and are willing to learn. What You'll Do Perform general construction labor on specialized geotechnical and structural projects Tie and place reinforcing steel and welded wire reinforcement Mix, pump, and/or place grout, concrete, and shotcrete Build and strip concrete forms Handle pipe, lumber, reinforcing steel, cement, hoses, tools, and other construction materials Assist equipment operators, drillers, nozzlemen, and experienced craft workers Set up and work from all-terrain scaffolding and other access systems Perform excavation, grading, erosion-control, and site-preparation work Maintain tools, equipment, and organized work areas Help with mobilization, demobilization, and daily jobsite cleanup Follow company and jobsite safety requirements at all times Take on whatever task is needed to keep the crew moving What We're Looking For Construction experience is preferred, but attitude, reliability, and work ethic matter more. We are willing to train someone who shows up every day ready to work and wants to build a career in the trade.
You should be able to:
Perform physically demanding work throughout a full construction shift Regularly lift and carry heavy construction materials Climb and work on steep slopes and uneven terrain Work comfortably from scaffolding and at heights Work safely around heavy equipment, drilling equipment, power tools, and active construction operations Work outdoors in heat, sun, wind, and changing weather conditions Follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew Stay productive without needing to be constantly supervised Treat cleanup, material handling, and other basic tasks with the same importance as skilled work Report to work consistently and on time Have reliable transportation to assigned meeting points or project sites Experience That Is Especially Valuable Experience in any of the following is a plus, but not required : General construction Concrete and shotcrete Rebar installation Formwork Drilling or foundation work Soil nails, tiebacks, or shoring Retaining walls Excavation and grading Heavy equipment operation Hillside or difficult-access construction Why J.C. Baldwin? We are a small, established contractor where good employees don't disappear into a huge workforce. You'll work directly alongside experienced people and have the opportunity to learn multiple parts of the trade rather than being limited to one repetitive task. For someone who is dependable, works hard, and wants to learn, there is significant opportunity to develop into a skilled construction worker, equipment operator, driller, or crew leader over time. Our projects are primarily located throughout San Diego County and the surrounding Southern California area. This is a local construction position — not a traveling road-warrior job. You should expect to go home at the end of the workday under normal project conditions although travel may be required based on the Company's backlog.
Compensation & Benefits Pay:
$25.00-$40.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill level Opportunities for overtime may be available depending on project schedules. How to Apply Please submit an updated resume or a brief description of your construction experience. If you don't have extensive construction experience but have a strong work history, are mechanically inclined, and are serious about learning the trade, we still encourage you to apply. We're looking for people who want more than a temporary job. We're looking for people who can become long-term members of our crew.
