Agricultural Laborer

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Farm Manager, the incumbent performs agricultural labor duties and skilled tasks as related to farming. Will assist in preparing soil, planting, maintaining and harvesting crops, assisting with heavy lifting, overall grounds keeping, miscellaneous odd jobs in the installation and year-round maintenance as assigned. Completes construction and maintenance of fencing and related items. Maintenance of grounds in all areas as assigned. Power washes and disinfects all equipment as assigned. Must maintain a valid driver's license; must provide a yearly DMV Certified Driving History. High school diploma or GED and two years' experience in agricultural farming required. Must be able to safely operate standard-shift pickup trucks to haul materials to and from work sites and be able to haul a trailer using side-view mirrors. Having the ability to operate a snowplow is helpful. Knowledge of plant materials and diseases is helpful. Ability to work a 5-day work week with livestock care, and events often scheduled on weekends. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions. Must adhere to all food safety rules. Must adhere to Pequot Agriculture Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and associated Policies and Procedures. Seed propagation, sowing, bed preparation, transplanting, weeding, mulching, cultivating, fertilizing, staking, trellising, harvesting, washing, packing, marketing and selling fruits, herbs, vegetables and flowers. Monitoring the health and well-being of our flock of laying hens, feeding, watering, collecting eggs, moving fences and pasture enclosures, cleaning and restocking bedding in coop and sand in chicken run. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the swine unit, including feeding, housing, and health monitoring. Position is responsible for managing cattle operations to ensure optimal growth, productivity, and animal welfare. Participation at farmers markets, pop-up and cultural events, and any vendor market opportunities including packing, hauling, booth set up, selling and break down. Completes all tasks related to growing and harvesting crops in fields, high tunnels, controlled environment units, and any other identified crop production area. Assists in the operation and maintenance of indoor farming/controlled environment agriculture and proactive troubleshooting. Delivers produce and agricultural products to clients. Assists in community food distribution including transporting produce, market setup or box compilation Must adhere to all food safety code.
