Experienced Construction Crew Lead / Lead Carpenter — $35-$55 per Hour Baseline Construction LLC —
Sandpoint, Idaho Job Type:
Full-Time, Year-Round Pay:
$35.00-$55.00 per hour, based on verified experience, skill level, and ability to independently lead a crew.
Experience Required:
Minimum 7 years of hands-on residential or commercial construction experience, including demonstrated crew leadership experience. About the Position Baseline Construction LLC is looking for a highly skilled, dependable, and experienced Construction Crew Lead to run a small, two-person crew on a variety of construction projects throughout North Idaho. This is NOT an entry-level position, and we are NOT looking for someone who only has experience in one trade. We are looking for a well-rounded construction professional who understands multiple phases of construction, takes pride in producing high-quality work, and can independently lead projects from start to finish with minimal supervision. Our company handles a wide variety of construction projects, including custom homes, shops, pole buildings, structural framing, remodels, additions, concrete work, siding, roofing, and detailed finish work. The right candidate will be someone who can walk onto a jobsite, review the plans, understand what needs to happen, organize the work, and get it done correctly and efficiently without needing someone to constantly tell them what to do. This is a hands-on leadership position. You will be expected to work alongside your crew, not simply supervise from the sidelines. Required Experience & Qualifications Applicants must meet the following requirements: 7+ years of hands-on construction experience with a strong background in residential or commercial building construction. Previous experience successfully leading a crew or independently managing construction tasks and projects. Advanced knowledge of wood framing, including walls, roofs, floor systems, structural connections, and layout. Ability to read, understand, and build from construction plans and engineered drawings. Strong understanding of construction measurements, elevations, roof pitches, layout, and building geometry. Experience working in multiple phases of construction, beyond framing alone. Ability to accurately calculate material quantities and anticipate material needs. Ability to identify problems, develop practical solutions, and execute them without constant direction. Strong knowledge of construction tools, equipment, installation methods, and jobsite safety. Ability to maintain high standards for workmanship, accuracy, and productivity. Experience training and developing less-experienced construction workers. Valid driver's license and dependable transportation. Ability to perform physically demanding construction work. If you are not comfortable independently laying out and framing a building from construction plans, this position is not the right fit. What You'll Be Responsible For 1. Leading a Small Crew Direct and work alongside the construction crew. Assign work based on each employee's skills and experience. Keep crew members productive and focused throughout the day. Teach proper installation methods, construction techniques, and efficient work practices. Hold yourself and your crew accountable for quality and productivity. 2. Independently Executing Construction Work Review plans and determine the correct sequence of construction. Perform accurate layout, framing, installation, and finishing work. Understand structural details and recognize when clarification is needed. Perform a variety of construction tasks without needing step-by-step instruction. Maintain professional workmanship across multiple trades and project types. 3. Problem-Solving & Adaptability Recognize potential issues before they become costly mistakes. Work through unexpected jobsite conditions and develop effective solutions. Learn unfamiliar construction methods and installation systems quickly. Know when to make routine field decisions and when to obtain approval. Adapt to different types of construction projects without sacrificing efficiency or quality. 4. Quality Control & Jobsite Organization Double-check measurements, layouts, and material requirements before proceeding. Ensure work is completed correctly the first time. Prevent unnecessary material waste, rework, and avoidable mistakes. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite. Communicate progress, material needs, and potential issues to management. The Type of Person We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Has extensive real-world construction knowledge—not just years spent working on jobsites. Takes initiative and doesn't wait around to be told what to do next. Is a strong carpenter and builder who can also effectively lead others. Can teach less-experienced employees without losing patience or slowing down the entire crew. Works efficiently while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. Takes ownership of their work and acknowledges mistakes instead of making excuses. Can transition between framing, remodeling, finishing, and other construction tasks. Communicates clearly and professionally with management, coworkers, and homeowners. Shows up consistently, works hard, and leads by example. Wants a long-term position with a growing construction company. We value skill, productivity, dependability, and leadership—not job titles or inflated resumes. Compensation $35-$55 per hour depending on experience and demonstrated abilities. We are willing to pay top dollar for someone who truly knows construction, can independently run a crew, and consistently produces quality results. The highest pay range is reserved for candidates with exceptional construction knowledge, proven leadership abilities, and the demonstrated ability to handle complex projects with minimal supervision. This is an opportunity for an experienced construction professional to take on a meaningful leadership role with a growing company.

READ BEFORE APPLYING
We are specifically looking for an experienced, versatile construction crew leader.
Please do not apply if:
Your primary experience is general labor or assisting experienced carpenters. You cannot independently read plans and complete framing layouts. You have only worked in one specialized trade and have limited experience with other construction phases. You need constant supervision or detailed instructions to complete standard construction tasks. You have never been responsible for directing or training other construction employees. You are not comfortable performing physical construction work alongside your crew. How to Apply To be considered, please include answers to the following questions with your application: How many years of construction experience do you have, and how many of those years have you spent leading a crew? What types of construction projects have you personally completed or led? Be specific. Can you independently lay out, frame, and complete the structural framing of a building from a set of construction plans? Describe your experience. Which areas of construction are you most experienced in, and which areas do you have limited experience with? Describe a challenging construction problem you encountered and how you solved it. What is the largest or most complex construction project you have personally led, and how many employees were you responsible for? Why do you believe your construction experience and leadership abilities qualify you for $35-$55 per hour? Applications without detailed responses to these questions may not be considered. We are not looking to fill this position with just anyone. We are looking for the right person who can become a dependable, long-term part of Baseline Construction LLC.
