Seasonal Laborers in the Streets and Sewers Division of the Public Works Department work with and support the activities of the Streets and Sewers employees by performing tasks related to the repair and maintenance of public infrastructure in the City of Bloomington. Seasonal Laborers work in the field with other Streets and Sewers employees and follow the direction of Crew Leaders, Operators, Truck Drivers, and Laborers while performing repair and maintenance tasks. Work assignments include concrete repairs, sewer maintenance and repairs, sign installation and repair, asphalt pavement repairs and other duties as assigned. This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned. Repair of PCC pavement including sawing, demolition and excavation of deteriorated pavement, placing and compaction of backfill, setting of concrete forms, placements, and finishing of concrete, and restoration of the work site. Repair and maintenance of sewer pipes and structures including removal of inlets, manholes and failed pipes, and reinstallation of inlets, manholes, sewer pipes. Televising of sewer pipes. Mechanical cleaning of sewer pipes and structures. Repair and installation of traffic control and information signs including removal and setting of signposts and signs. Removal of failed asphalt pavement including sawing, grinding, and excavation of asphalt. Installation of asphalt to include placement and compaction of asphalt pavement. Ability to accept and follow direction from fellow employees and supervisors. Ability to Utilize hand tools and power tools in a safe and efficient manner. Tools that will be used are shovels, hammers, saws, rakes, come-along, screeds, finishing tools, wheelbarrows, levels, and measuring tools.

Preferred:

6 months of prior successful employment in work like the work of the Streets and Sewers Section. Must be 18 years of age.
