AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leader - 2026-27 Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana Gary, Indiana Full-time, in-person | Approximately 10½-month AmeriCorps service term Typical schedule: Tuesday-Saturday About the Opportunity Build homes, lead volunteers, and make a lasting difference throughout Lake County. Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana is recruiting a full-time AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leader. This hands-on service position is an opportunity to develop construction and leadership skills while helping families build and improve safe, affordable places to call home. The Construction Crew Leader will work alongside Habitat staff, volunteers and future homeowners on new construction, rehabilitation, critical repairs, accessibility modifications, weatherization and neighborhood revitalization projects. What You'll Do

• Assist with hands-on construction activities, including demolition, site preparation, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
• Lead small groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers during construction and repair projects.
• Provide volunteer orientation, instruction and encouragement.
• Help create a safe, efficient and positive experience for everyone on the job site.
• Follow and model Habitat construction-safety policies and best practices.
• Monitor job-site conditions and reinforce safe work procedures.
• Organize tools, equipment, and construction materials.
• Assist with construction documentation and project reporting.
• Work alongside Habitat homeowners completing their sweat-equity requirements.
• Represent Habitat's mission when working with corporate, faith, college, youth and community volunteer groups. Who We're Looking For An ideal candidate:

Previous construction experience is helpful but not required. This position provides opportunities to gain practical experience in residential construction, volunteer leadership, project coordination, and nonprofit service.

Minimum Requirements Applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school diploma or GED.
• Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident.
• Be available for full-time, in-person service.

Service Term and Schedule This is a full-time, in-person AmeriCorps service position lasting approximately 10½ months. Construction Crew Leaders typically serve Tuesday through Saturday on Habitat build sites throughout Lake County. Start dates are flexible, generally four to six weeks after an offer is accepted, and no earlier than September 2026.
