Construction Laborer Job Summary W.M. Schlosser Company is seeking a dependable and hardworking Laborer to support railroad construction and maintenance activities throughout the Baltimore, MD area. This position is ideal for individuals with prior experience working on or around active railroad operations who understand the importance of safety, teamwork, and productivity in a rail environment. The Railroad Laborer will assist crews with track protection, installation and maintenance of rail infrastructure, material handling, and general construction activities while working under the direction of the Railway Worker In Charge (RWIC), foremen, and project supervisors. Essential Functions
Assist with railroad construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.
Assist in setting up and removing Railroad Worker Protection (RWP) devices, including derails, orange flags, and lockout/tagout systems.
Participate in daily job briefings and safety meetings.
Follow all instructions provided by the RWIC and supervisory personnel regarding on-track and general construction safety procedures.
Perform general labor duties such as digging, lifting, carrying, loading, unloading, and material placement.
Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and efficiently.
Maintain work areas in clean, organized, and safe condition.
Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting construction materials and tools.
Work closely with crew members to complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely.
Adhere to all railroad, client, company, and OSHA safety requirements.
Qualifications Previous experience working on or around railroad construction or maintenance projects required Knowledge of railroad safety practices and right-of-way work is strongly preferred. Ability to understand and follow railroad worker protection procedures. Experience using common construction and track maintenance tools. Strong work ethic and commitment to safety. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Reliable transportation and dependable attendance. Project requires all employees to pass CSX Roadway Protection and Amtrak Safety testing Prior experience with MARC, Amtrak, CSX, Norfolk Southern, or other railroad operations. Previous Railroad Worker Protection (RWP) training. Physical Requirements Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods. Ability to safely navigate uneven terrain and active construction sites. Preferred Qualifications Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
