Director, Plant Operations Job Summary:
The General Laborer performs hands-on manual labor and routine facility maintenance to help ensure Oaklawn and affiliated properties remain safe, clean, and functional. This position supports maintenance technicians by assisting with preventive maintenance, minor repairs, groundskeeping, equipment and furniture moves, and general housekeeping tasks.
Essential Functions:
Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives. Supports maintenance techs by passing tools, holding materials, or completing basic tasks Operates and maintains hand tools, power tools, and light equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety standards. Develops and applies basic maintenance knowledge and techniques to support facility operations. Loads, unloads, and organizes building materials, equipment, supplies, and tools. Performs grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and general landscaping on and off campus with minimal supervision. Removes snow and applies salt or ice melt to sidewalks, parking lots, and other designated areas to ensure safe conditions. Assists with departmental moves by safely lifting, transporting, and relocating furniture, equipment, and other heavy items. Performs general housekeeping and cleanup of work areas during and upon completion of maintenance assignments. Operates hospital-owned vehicles in accordance with organizational policies and procedures. Completes assigned tasks independently while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, and reliability. Complies with all applicable health and safety regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and organizational safety policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
18 years of age and valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience preferred. Ability to work long, hard hours and to have the necessary attention to detail to perform tasks at the expected quality level. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to read, write and understand written and verbal instructions; attention to detail to perform tasks at the expected quality level; ability to work in a team environment when necessary and independently. Knowledge of basic office computer software, and the ability to learn maintenance software to input work orders and research parts.
Working Conditions:
May occasionally be exposed to hazardous materials and various degrees of weather.
Physical Requirements:
Constantly stand, walk, reach, push/pull, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear. Frequently bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 1-50 lbs. Occasionally lift/carry 50-75+ lbs.
