Laborer - Fiber Pulling & Support Technician
Job Description
Position Summary The Fiber Pulling and Support Technician is responsible for assisting with the installation, placement, and routing of fiber optic cable for telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role supports construction crews by pulling fiber through conduit, aerial pathways, and underground systems while maintaining safety, quality, and project schedules. The technician works in various outdoor environments and ensures all work complies with company standards and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities Pull, route, and secure fiber optic cables through underground conduit systems, aerial pathways, and building entrances. Assist with cable placement, duct rodding, and pulling operations using hand tools and mechanical equipment. Support fiber splicing and testing crews by preparing cables, organizing materials, and maintaining job sites. Install innerduct,conduit, handholes, vaults, and cable support systems as required. Read and interpret construction drawings, maps, and work orders. Perform site preparation, cleanup, and restoration activities. Assist with traffic control setup and maintenance according to project requirements. Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and project progress. Operate company vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly. Follow all OSHA, company, and customer safety regulations. Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and field crews to ensure timely completion of projects. Identify and report potential hazards, utility conflicts, and project issues. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in telecommunications construction, utility construction, or fiber optic installation preferred. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to travel to project sites as needed. Preferred Experience with fiber optic cable placement and telecommunications construction. Fiber blowing/ Jetting experience is a plus. Knowledge of underground and aerial fiber construction methods. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Flagging or traffic control certification. CDL license (preferred but not required). Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Ability to pull, push, and move cable and construction materials. Work in confined spaces, trenches, and elevated locations when required. Ability to work overtime, weekends, and emergency restoration assignments. Skills and Competencies Attention to detail and commitment to quality. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Basic understanding of telecommunications infrastructure. Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures. Problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-paced construction environment.
