Job Description

About the Role We are looking for a reliable Utility Construction Technician to assist with the installation and inspection of utility systems across multiple work sites. This role is highly active and involves a wide range of duties, including site preparation, material management, equipment operation support, utility locating, and trenching. Successful applicants will be comfortable performing strenuous physical labor in diverse outdoor environments and confined spaces. You must be capable of working safely near heavy machinery and maintaining high productivity throughout the day. Prior background in excavation, underground utility work, or general construction is highly valued. Core Duties Expect frequent travel with overnight stays in hotels, where lodging and a per diem allowance are fully covered. Support the installation of utility systems and conduct underground inspections across diverse project locations. Execute site preparation tasks such as trenching, digging, grading, and backfilling to ensure project readiness. Utilize an assortment of hand and power tools while providing operational support for construction machinery. Help ensure project safety by identifying and mapping existing underground infrastructure before and during work. Collaborate with equipment operators to ensure materials are positioned, aligned, and placed accurately. Manage the loading, unloading, and staging of pipes, tools, and other essential construction supplies. Support the setup and functional operation of generators, pumps, compressors, and other site equipment. Execute tasks according to project specifications and supervisor guidance to meet completion goals. Help maintain a safe working environment for the entire team by keeping the site organized and tidy. Contribute to site safety by assisting with traffic control and the management of secure work zones. Perform basic upkeep, cleaning, and routine maintenance on all assigned tools and equipment. Promote a culture of safety by adhering to all protocols and reporting any hazards or incidents immediately. Collaborate effectively with the construction crew to assist with various project-related tasks as they arise. Qualifications Prior experience in utility, excavation, or general construction fields is preferred. Demonstrate the physical capacity for demanding tasks like lifting, digging, bending, and standing for long durations. Maintain comfort while working outdoors and in close proximity to heavy machinery. Show proficiency in following both verbal and written directives. Possess the ability to interpret basic construction blueprints or project requirements. Maintain reliable transportation and a consistent attendance record. Willingness to undergo and comply with all necessary drug and alcohol screening protocols. Dedication to upholding a professional and secure job site for all personnel. Flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as project needs evolve. Physical Skills and Abilities Regularly operate near mechanical parts while exposed to outdoor elements like heat, humidity, dust, and construction materials. Ability to lift, pull, or push heavy objects while utilizing core strength to maintain stamina during physical exertion. Requires strong manual dexterity and the ability to coordinate multiple limbs effectively. Must demonstrate the ability to move arms and legs with speed and precision. High levels of physical endurance are necessary for this role. Must hold or be eligible to secure a valid state driver's license before starting. This is a safety-sensitive role; all applicants must pass a DOT-compliant drug screening and will be subject to ongoing random drug testing.
