About Us Rhode Island Restoration handles water, fire, and mold restoration and reconstruction. We are based at 16 Stafford Ct, Cranston, RI. Work is performed at customer job sites throughout Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts, and eastern Connecticut. Role Summary We are building a new two-person reconstruction crew and are looking for an experienced Drywall, Plaster & Painting Specialist to join it. This is primarily a plaster and drywall role, with some painting. You will work side by side with our Senior Carpenter, who leads the crew, to handle smaller, primarily residential restoration and reconstruction projects after water, fire, and mold damage. Once the carpentry and repairs are done, you bring the walls and ceilings back to a clean, finished look, mainly by repairing plaster and hanging and finishing drywall, with painting of interiors and exteriors, including sprayer work, as part of the job. We are looking for someone who works well with a partner, can operate independently without constant supervision, and takes pride in quality work in customers' homes. A company van is provided for the crew. Responsibilities
- Hang drywall on walls and ceilings, including patching and replacing water
- or fire-damaged sections, and match new work to existing surfaces.
- Tape, mud, and finish drywall seams, corners, and patches (including corner bead) to a smooth, paint-ready finish; sand and prep for paint.
- Repair cracked, damaged, or water-stained plaster walls and ceilings, including patching over lath and blending repairs into existing plaster in older homes.
- Match existing wall and ceiling textures where needed.
- Painting duties (secondary to plaster and drywall work): prepare surfaces for paint by protecting floors and furnishings, scraping, patching, caulking, sanding, and priming, including stain-blocking primers over water and smoke damage.
- As part of the painting duties, paint interior walls, ceilings, trim, and doors, and paint exterior siding, trim, and other surfaces using brush, roller, and sprayer as appropriate.
- Match existing paint colors and sheens, and finish work so repairs blend in with the rest of the home.
- Work alongside the Senior Carpenter as a two-person crew on smaller, primarily residential reconstruction projects, keeping the job moving efficiently without the need for constant supervision.
- Communicate courteously and professionally with homeowners while working in occupied homes; keep work areas clean and protect customer property.
- Follow job-site safety practices and company safety policies, including proper use of PPE, ladders, and scaffolding, and safe handling of dust, paints, and solvents.
- Help keep the company van, tools, and materials organized, and let the crew lead or project manager know about material needs.
- Take photos and daily notes of job progress in the company app.
- Perform other reconstruction tasks as assigned. Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in plaster, drywall, and/or painting (residential construction, remodeling, or restoration preferred).
- Solid hands-on skills in plaster repair and drywall hanging and finishing (the core of this role), plus interior/exterior painting, including sprayer work. Strong experience in all three is preferred.
- Able to produce a clean, smooth finish and to blend repairs into existing walls, ceilings, textures, and paint.
- Able to work well with a partner and to work independently without constant supervision.
- Professional, courteous attitude when working in customers' homes, with strong attention to detail and pride in quality work.
- Your own drywall, plaster, and painting hand tools. We will supplement with any additional tools or equipment the job requires.
- Valid driver's license with no major violations in the last 3 years (required).
- EPA Lead-Safe (RRP) certification is a plus but not required. OSHA safety training is also a plus.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs (e.g., full sheets of drywall and buckets of compound), work on ladders and scaffolding, and work in occupied homes and in varying weather conditions. Schedule
- Full-time, Mondayâ€"Friday, 7:30 AM start.
- No on-call requirement. Occasional weekend work may be available but is not required. Pay & Benefits
- $25/hour for someone with solid experience in drywall, plaster, and painting.
