(AJC) is an established General Contractor with over 30 years of experience in retail, commercial, and industrial construction. Our work includes Walmart remodels, big-box retail, grocery stores, fuel stations, and ground-up commercial projects. We are looking for an experienced construction professional who understands how to run a job site, lead subcontractors, read plans, and keep projects moving. This position begins as an Assistant Superintendent. Even experienced hires will initially work alongside our field leadership and office team to learn AJC's construction standards, operating procedures, and Walmart's project requirements. Our goal is to develop Superintendents who are prepared to independently manage AJC projects. We are looking for someone who brings valuable construction experience but is also willing to learn how our team operates.

IS A TRAVELING POSITION. ONTARIO IS OUR OFFICE LOCATION

This is not always a local construction position or a role with occasional travel. Projects are located throughout California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, and Washington. You must be willing and able to travel regularly and work away from home based on project assignments. Assignments may require extended stays near project locations if said job is more than 60-100 miles from an employee's residence for safety. AJC provides housing, per diem, airfare coverage, and a gas allowance for work-related travel. Please apply only if you are comfortable with a travel-based construction career. What You'll Do During your initial Assistant Superintendent assignment, you will learn AJC's expectations while actively supporting field operations. As you demonstrate readiness to take on greater responsibility, the role is intended to progress toward independently managing projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

Coordinating daily construction activities, subcontractors, and job site operations. Reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and field directives. Assisting with project schedules, lookaheads, inspections, and milestone tracking. Maintaining job site safety, quality, cleanliness, and organization. Preparing daily reports, progress updates, and project documentation. Working closely with Project Managers and field leadership on project scope, scheduling, and execution. Learning and implementing Walmart-specific construction standards and compliance requirements. Communicating professionally with clients, inspectors, subcontractors, and AJC's office team. Using project management tools such as Wrike, Fieldwire, Dropbox, and Microsoft Office. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications 5+ years of commercial construction experience in a superintendent or comparable field leadership role. Ground-up construction experience is required. Strong ability to read blueprints, understand specifications, and coordinate construction activities. Experience managing subcontractors, schedules, and job site operations. Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Comfortable using computers, tablets, and construction management software. Willingness to travel extensively, work away from home, and accommodate project schedules. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Willingness to learn and follow AJC's established operating procedures, regardless of previous experience. Preferred Experience Big-box retail, grocery, fuel station, or retail tenant improvement projects. Walmart remodels, expansions, or fuel station construction. Experience with clients such as Walmart, Sam's Club, CVS, or ALDI. Familiarity with construction management platforms and detailed field reporting. Prior Walmart experience is a plus, not a requirement. Strong construction fundamentals, leadership ability, and a willingness to learn are essential.
