VDC/BIM Manager

Job Description

The VDC Department Manager leads all BIM/VDC efforts related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, with a strong emphasis on prefabrication and building projects virtually before field execution begins. Success requires driving organizational buy-in to VDC processes and maintaining high standards of model accuracy to directly support fabrication, installation, and overall project outcomes. The VDC Manager serves as a culture champion who develops high-performing teams and fosters an environment of trust, accountability, continuous improvement, and servant leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Create a positive, collaborative, and high-performance environment that promotes respect, accountability, integrity, and teamwork. Lead with humility, transparency, and authenticity while maintaining high standards of performance. Facilitate collaboration between internal departments, trade partners, designers, and clients. Navigate challenges and conflicts with a solutions-oriented mindset that strengthens relationships. Champion a "Build it virtually first" philosophy company-wide and with trade partners. Establish and enforce model accuracy, completeness, and constructability expectations. Implement quality control processes to validate models before release to fabrication or field teams; ensure models are precise in dimensions, routing, and trade coordination — detailed enough to support fabrication without rework. Recruit, mentor, and develop VDC professionals, field personnel, and project teams. Conduct regular coaching conversations focused on both technical growth and leadership development; build a career development pathway for team members. Encourage innovation, problem-solving, and ownership at all levels. Provide constructive feedback and recognize achievements that align with company values. Ensure models are developed to fabrication level (LOD 400+) for shop production. Collaborate with fabrication shops to align model output with manufacturing capabilities. Oversee spool drawings, assemblies, and material lists derived from coordinated models. Validate installation sequencing virtually before fabrication and field work begins. Develop and enforce BIM/VDC standards specific to mechanical/plumbing coordination and prefabrication. Implement workflows connecting design, coordination, fabrication, and field execution. Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies (laser scanning, point clouds, digital twins).
Key Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. 7-10+ years of construction, BIM, VDC, or related industry experience. 5+ years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of MEP systems, installation practices, and prefabrication. Proven experience developing fabrication-level models (LOD 400+). Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, and Autodesk Construction Cloud. Leadership in driving VDC adoption across teams and trade partners. Strong commitment to virtual construction methodologies; exceptional attention to model accuracy and detail. Ability to translate models into real-world construction and fabrication success; high accountability for quality and constructability.
