CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT
- Central/Southeast United States Civil Works Contracting is seeking an experienced Railroad Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on railroad construction and maintenance projects.
This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and successful execution of assigned projects, including supervision of field personnel, planning and scheduling of work, quality control, equipment coordination, production, and communication with project management and customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead and manage day-to-day field operations for assigned railroad construction projects with responsibility for safety, quality, production, schedule, manpower, equipment, and overall field performance . Work closely with the Project Manager to plan project execution, develop means and methods, establish work sequences, identify resource requirements, and develop project-specific safety plans. Review project plans, specifications, contracts, schedules, and other project documents to ensure field operations are performed in accordance with current project requirements. Develop and maintain short-term work plans and look-ahead schedules to ensure labor, equipment, tools, materials, subcontractors, and other resources are available when required. Plan, schedule, and manage field crews typically consisting of 10-25 employees , including foremen, equipment operators, and laborers. Provide leadership and direction to foremen and field personnel while establishing clear expectations for safety, quality, production, and schedule performance. Monitor crew performance and productivity and take appropriate corrective action when necessary, including coaching, training, and coordination with management. Conduct daily job briefings to communicate work plans, production goals, schedule requirements, job hazards, safety requirements, and changing field conditions. Maintain a strong safety culture by leading by example and enforcing company safety policies, project requirements, FRA requirements, and applicable Roadway Worker Protection rules. Ensure required personal protective equipment, tools, and safety equipment are available and properly used by field personnel. Ensure railroad construction activities meet applicable plans, specifications, tolerances, and quality requirements. Identify deficiencies and ensure corrective work is completed promptly. Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, suppliers, and other contractors to maintain efficient project operations. Monitor the condition and proper operation of company equipment and coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs with operators, mechanics, and management to minimize downtime. Ensure required equipment inspections and documentation are completed, including applicable Roadway Maintenance Machine inspections. Maintain accurate field documentation including daily reports, employee time, production quantities, equipment usage, inspection records, change documentation, and other required project records. Identify changed conditions, additional work, delays, conflicts, or other issues that may affect cost or schedule and promptly communicate them to the Project Manager. Communicate professionally with owners, inspectors, engineers, railroad representatives, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders. Maintain a high level of customer service and represent CWC professionally in all interactions with customers and project partners. Coordinate crew travel and field logistics as necessary for assigned projects. Perform other project-related duties as required to support successful completion of the work. Qualifications 5+ years of railroad construction experience in a supervisory or field leadership role preferred. Strong working knowledge of railroad track construction and maintenance operations, including: New track construction Turnout installation and replacement Grade crossing construction Tie and rail replacement Continuous welded rail (CWR) Track surfacing, lining, and regulating Thermite welding Track rehabilitation and maintenance Knowledge of applicable FRA Track Safety Standards and Roadway Worker Protection requirements . Ability to qualify for required FRA track inspection responsibilities applicable to assigned work. Demonstrated ability to safely supervise multiple crews, foremen, equipment operators, and laborers. Ability to read and understand construction plans, railroad standard plans, specifications, schedules, and project-specific requirements. Strong understanding of railroad construction means and methods, equipment utilization, production planning, and sequencing of work. Ability to plan work in advance, identify potential problems, and coordinate the resources necessary to maintain production and schedule. Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, develop, motivate, and hold field personnel accountable. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, project management, customers, inspectors, and subcontractors. Ability to maintain accurate project records and prepare daily reports, production reports, time records, equipment logs, inspection documentation, and change documentation. Basic computer, tablet, and mobile-device proficiency. Self-motivated and capable of managing field operations with limited day-to-day supervision. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record for operation of a company vehicle. Ability and willingness to travel extensively based on project requirements. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in an active heavy-construction and railroad environment.
