Job Description

Background:
The Research Foundation for SUNY was awarded a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) to establish the Northeast New York Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Partnership. The goal of this program is to increase the supply of a diverse behavioral health workforce that is trained to provide integrated behavioral healthcare with a focus on youth, adolescents, and young adults and committed to working in high-need and high-demand areas. Our program targets high-need, underserved areas in Albany, Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington counties in Northeast New York. This initiative provides funding to support the Behavioral Health Fellows Training Program which allows SUNY Plattsburgh to offer specialized training opportunities along with a $25,000 stipend to 16 advanced graduate-level mental health counseling and social work students at SUNY Plattsburgh. The project will also create the Northeast New York Integrated Behavioral Health Training Institute which will increase regional capacity to provide integrated behavioral health services in underserved and high-need communities by providing training and professional development opportunities for Behavioral Health Fellows, faculty, educational partners, and the broader behavioral health community.
Function & Scope:
The Preceptor supports the Behavioral Health Fellows Training Program by providing support and training to the Educational Partners providing onsite supervision for Behavioral Health Fellows and providing supervision directly to the Behavioral Health Fellows. This role is also responsible for developing and delivering trainings to both Educational Partners and Behavioral Health Fellows. This role is responsible for resolving complex issues, maintaining detailed documentation, and maintaining high-quality, productive relationships with project partners. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and skilled at multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting faculty responsibility for developing practicum placement sites for graduate clinical mental health and social work students
  • Assisting with recruiting and selecting Behavioral Health Fellows
  • Ensuring bi-directional communication between program staff, Educational Partners, and Behavioral Health Fellows
  • Serving as field liaison for eight students
  • Assisting with developing and delivering a Clinical Supervision Certificate for Educational Partners and workshops for Behavioral Health Fellows
  • Providing day-to-day support for Educational Partners focused on developing clinical supervision skills and ensuring high-quality experiential training opportunities for Behavioral Health Fellows
  • Providing day-to-day support for Behavioral Health Fellows to ensure quality training experiences and program engagement
  • Collaborating with the Office of Career Development to offer a behavioral-health specific on-campus recruiting event
Requirements:
Master's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program or a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling Licensure to practice social work (LCSW or LCSW-R) or clinical mental health counseling (LMHC or LMHC-D) in New York State A minimum of 3 years of experience providing clinical supervision including experience supervising behavioral health trainees in a clinical setting, preferably in an integrated behavioral health setting with a focus on children, adolescents, and young adults.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing curricula and providing training to support the behavioral health workforce.
Key Competencies:
Clinical Supervision - Provides expert clinical supervision for master's-level behavioral health professionals and builds the capacity of less-experienced clinical supervisors. Organizational Skills - Maintains appropriate documentation of interactions with Educational Partners and Behavioral Health Fellows and demonstrates a strong ability to manage multiple tasks. Relationship-Building - Demonstrates empathy, patience, and professionalism in all interactions with project partners with the goal of building and maintaining strong relationships to support student learning experiences. Curriculum Development and Training - Identifies learning goals and objectives and creates appropriate training workshops incorporating adult-learning principles; prepares supporting materials including instructor manuals, Powerpoint slides, handouts and activities; and delivers training in accordance with curriculum. (Preferred) Providing Behavioral Health Services for Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults - Shares expertise on providing behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and young adults from an integrated behavioral health perspective.
Working Conditions:
Regular business hours, although some evening or weekend work may be required. Most work can be accomplished remotely but position must be available for periodic in-person meetings in Plattsburgh or Queensbury New York. If working remotely, position is responsible for maintaining regular contact with project staff.
Compensation for this position:
$50-$70 per hour (15 hours per week between late-August and late-May)
