Job Description

Project Manager - Electrical ConstructionPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Electrical Construction to lead medium to large electrical infrastructure projects with a focus on substation construction. The successful candidate will manage project delivery from planning through commissioning, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality and regulatory standards. This role requires strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, proven substation project management experience, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead project delivery for electrical construction projects, including substation design-build and construction, from initiation through closeout.

Develop, maintain and drive project schedules and budgets; forecast costs and manage project cash flow to achieve financial targets.

Oversee procurement, contractor selection, subcontractor management, and vendor relations; negotiate contracts and manage change orders.

Provide technical oversight for electrical and substation construction activities, including review of drawings, specifications, test plans, and commissioning procedures.

Ensure strict compliance with safety policies, company HSE programs, utility standards, codes (NEC, NESC), and applicable regulatory requirements.

Coordinate site activities, manage construction sequencing, resource allocation, and daily progress to minimize delays and mitigate risks.

Serve as primary client and stakeholder contact; prepare and present regular project updates, status reports, and risk assessments to internal leadership and customers.

Implement and maintain quality control processes, inspection regimes, and punch-list management to ensure deliverables meet project requirements.

Lead commissioning, energization, and turnover activities, coordinating testing, documentation, and training for operations teams.

Mentor and supervise project engineers, construction supervisors, and field personnel; promote continuous improvement and best practices across project teams.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.

Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical construction with at least 5 years in project management roles; demonstrable experience managing substation construction projects required.

Proven expertise in substation project management, including design review, construction methods, protection & control considerations, and commissioning.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred.

Strong knowledge of electrical codes, industry standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE), utility practices, and regulatory permitting processes.

Experience with project controls tools and software (Primavera P6, MS Project, SAP, or equivalent) and proficiency with construction cost estimating and scheduling.

Track record of managing project budgets, contracts, and commercial aspects including change management and claims avoidance.

Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build consensus across diverse teams.

Safety-focused with relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-hour); demonstrated ability to enforce rigorous HSE standards on site.

Willingness to travel to project sites frequently and a valid drivers license.
Preferred:
Professional Engineer (PE) license and experience with EPC or utility transmission projects.
