EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Code Enforcement Inspector | Long County Code Enforcement The Long County Board of Commissioners is currently accepting applications for the position of Code Enforcement Inspector with the Long County Code Enforcement. This position performs field inspections and investigative work to ensure compliance with County codes and ordinances. Duties include conducting inspections, investigating citizen complaints, identifying and documenting violations, performing follow-up inspections, communicating with property owners and contractors regarding compliance, and assisting with other Code Enforcement duties as assigned. Applicants must be able to perform physically demanding work in varying outdoor conditions. Related experience is preferred. A valid Georgia driver's license, or the ability to obtain one, is required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a drug screening and background check. Applicants must also provide a three-year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

TITLE:

Code Enforcement Inspector

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for conducting inspections throughout Long County to ensure compliance with County codes and ordinances. This position investigates complaints, identifies and documents violations, and works with property owners to achieve compliance.

MAJOR DUTIES

• Conducts required inspections on new residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and approved plans.
• Performs inspections at various stages of construction, including footing, foundation/slab, framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and final inspections.
• Identifies and documents code violations, construction deficiencies, and work that does not meet applicable requirements.
• Investigates citizen complaints as assigned and reports findings.
• Maintains accurate records of inspections, approvals, failed inspections, and corrective actions.
• Communicates professionally with contractors, builders, property owners, and the public while conducting inspections.
• Conducts other inspections related to permits and Code Enforcement as assigned.
• Operates and maintains a County vehicle.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

• Knowledge of or ability to learn County codes, ordinances and enforcement procedures.
• Knowledge of basic inspection and investigative practice.
• Ability to recognize, document, and report potential code violations.
• Skill in communicating effectively and professionally with the public.
• Skill in maintaining accurate records and preparing clear written documentation.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Code Enforcement Director assigns the daily inspections and complaints to investigate. Any conditions observed that may not comply with applicable codes or requirements are documented and reported to the supervisor for review and further direction.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include department and safety rules and regulations and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY

The work consist of conducting various inspections and complaints throughout the county. Inclement weather, walking on uneven or overgrown terrain, and performing the physical duties necessary to properly inspect contribute to the complexity of this position.

SCOPE AND EFFECT

The purpose of this position is to conduct inspections and investigate assigned complaints to help ensure compliance with County codes, ordinances, and permit requirements.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS

Contacts are made to exchange information regarding inspections, complaints, code requirements, and inspection findings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires driving, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping, and accessing active construction sites and properties, including uneven terrains.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in the field and may involve exposure to varying weather, dust, noise, construction equipment, and other conditions associated with active construction sites.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Georgia Driver's license, or the ability to obtain one.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to learn applicable codes and inspection procedures
• Electrical, construction, inspections, or code enforcement experience is preferred.
