Position Summary Blackstone Utilities is seeking an experienced FTTH Construction Inspector to provide daily field oversight of fiber-to-the-home construction. This position verifies that underground and aerial work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with customer specifications, approved designs, permits, municipal requirements, and Blackstone quality standards. The Inspector serves as the company's eyes and ears in the field. The right candidate will identify problems early, document actual production, hold crews accountable, and help ensure every segment is built correctly and ready for customer acceptance. Key Responsibilities

• Inspect underground and aerial FTTH construction, including directional drilling, potholing, conduit placement, handholes, vaults, pedestals, fiber placement, drops, restoration, and related work.
• Verify crews are working from current approved prints, permits, locate tickets, and construction standards.
• Confirm bore paths, depths, offsets, conduit sizes, handhole placement, setbacks, and other installation details against the approved design.
• Monitor compliance with utility-locate requirements, safe excavation practices, traffic control, personal protective equipment, and site-specific safety rules.
• Identify deviations, quality defects, unsafe conditions, utility conflicts, property damage, and restoration issues; document and escalate them promptly.
• Validate daily production quantities and confirm that reported units are complete, accurate, and supported by field observations.
• Maintain clear daily inspection reports, photographs, redlines, field notes, deficiency records, and closeout documentation.
• Coordinate with construction managers, subcontractors, customer representatives, engineers, municipalities, and property owners as required.
• Track corrective work and verify deficiencies are resolved before recommending acceptance or closeout.
• Support utility-damage investigations, incident documentation, and root-cause reviews when needed.
• Monitor restoration of lawns, pavement, sidewalks, driveways, landscaping, mailboxes, and other affected property.
• Attend preconstruction meetings, field walks, and project coordination meetings as assigned.
• Communicate field conditions, risks, delays, and required decisions to management in a timely and professional manner. Required Qualifications
• At least 3 years of field experience in FTTH, outside-plant fiber, telecommunications construction, or utility construction inspection.
• Working knowledge of underground fiber construction, directional drilling, conduit systems, handholes, utility locates, and restoration requirements.
• Ability to read construction drawings, route maps, permits, redlines, specifications, and locate markings.
• Strong observation, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, make sound field decisions, and hold contractors accountable professionally.
• Comfort using a smartphone, tablet, email, digital forms, photographs, and construction-tracking applications.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to walk active construction routes, navigate uneven terrain, and work outdoors in changing weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications
• Inspection or field-supervision experience with a broadband provider, municipality, engineering firm, or utility contractor.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS, Smartsheet, Microsoft 365, or similar construction-tracking systems.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with municipal permitting, utility damages, restoration standards, and contractor production validation.
• Knowledge of aerial fiber construction, fiber placement, testing, or splicing. What Success Looks Like
• Work is completed safely and according to the approved design.
• Production quantities are accurate and supported by field evidence.
• Deficiencies are identified before they become customer escalations or costly rework.
• Daily records, photographs, redlines, and closeout documentation are complete and timely.
• Crews understand expectations and are held consistently accountable.

Work Environment This is a field-based position requiring regular driving, walking active construction routes, and working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other changing conditions. Work hours may vary based on crew schedules and customer requirements. The position is local to the Greater Chicago area and does not require routine overnight travel. Pay:

$60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
