Job Overview The Heavy Equipment Operator is a skilled field position responsible for the safe, precise, and productive operation of production-class heavy equipment (such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and skid steers). This role performs critical earthwork, excavation, grading, and material handling tasks in support of heavy civil infrastructure and water/wastewater projects, including site development, utility installation, and site restoration. Execute precise earthwork and grading operations within tight easements, active treatment plant sites, and environmentally sensitive areas while minimizing disruption. Perform critical lifts and placement of large-diameter pipe, precast concrete structures, trench shoring, and other heavy infrastructure components. Proactively identify, expose, and protect existing underground utilities; maintain constant communication with ground crews and spotters to prevent utility strikes. Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections, perform basic maintenance, and report mechanical issues to minimize equipment downtime. Adhere to all OSHA safety standards, trench safety protocols, and company policies; assist with ground labor tasks as needed. Qualifications & Requirements Proven experience operating heavy equipment in a heavy civil, earthwork, or pipeline construction environment. Proven ability to dig and cut to precise grades. Strong understanding of soil mechanics, sloping, and working safely around complex shoring systems. Must have reliable transportation and live within a commutable distance to the Atlanta, GA area. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods in outdoor elements (extreme heat, rain, or cold). Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, kneel, crouch, and safely navigate active construction terrains. Commitment to company safety policies and OSHA standards. Must be authorized to work in the US and pass a pre-employment drug screening/physical.
