SUMMARY OF POSITION
The primary function of the Crane Operator is to efficiently and safely load cargo on and off the vessel. Secondary duties require highly skilled work in the operation and general maintenance of a wide variety of heavy equipment used in the maritime industry. Must be qualified to operate all types of cranes, stackers, yard hustlers, forklifts, most farm equipment, heavy industrial construction equipment, and tractor trailers. Work involves the safe and efficient operation of primarily the heaviest and largest types of equipment used in a full range of maritime operations. Must have mastered a broad spectrum of activities and responsibilities in multiple major areas of vessel operations and terminal operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safe and efficient operation of gantry crane, Container Handlers, Forklifts, Yard Hustlers, and other support equipment. Perform correction, preventative, corrosion control, and minor repairs to all support equipment. Complete daily, monthly, and annual safety inspections of equipment, must record result in machinery history log and assist in corrective measures. Qualify in all vessel operations support equipment, terminal support, and warehouse support equipment. Participate in the training and administration of training of key support personal to include flagmen, oilers, yard gang and new operators. Maintain standard proficiency rating as established by management; participate in the proficiency evaluation of other operators. Demonstrate a complete knowledge of general practices applied in the care and safe operation of a wide variety of light to heavy equipment used in the maritime industry. Demonstrate a complete knowledge of laws, regulations, safety standards and procedures applied in the care and safe operation of a wide variety of light to heavy equipment used in the maritime industry. Responsible for committing to memory the standard hand signals for crane operations and ensure compliance Additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrates a high level of skill and problem solving ability Able to work in conjunction with other team members and supervisions via radio phone and or hand signals. Understands and correctly uses the machines load chart. Reacts to changes in conditions that affect the safe operation of the crane. Able to pick carry swing and place a load smoothly and safely. Previous crane operation experience. Experience working in the Stevedore industry. High School or Equivalent, Certification/Diploma Resourceful, well organized and dependable. Good organizational skills. Ability to communicate with diverse personalities. Comfortable serving in a leadership role. Ability to work overtime during the week or on weekends. Excellent interpersonal skills. Forklift certification. Basic knowledge area's include: Safety Procedures; Truck Inspections; Storage and Exchange Points; Counterbalance Effect; Stability Triangle; Center of Gravity; Equipment Terminology; Attachments/Load centers; Battery Inspection; and Material handling including loading and de-stacking, unloading and stacking of counterbalance, traveling Ramps, Trailers and parking.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The work environment involves hazards, risks or discomforts typical of working around with or around machinery with exposed moving parts, arrant chemicals, heavy equipment, extreme heights or abusive or hostile clientele and patients. Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting and sound are normal. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
