- LarRance Steel Co expanding its field operations and is hiring ONE highly skilled Certified Crane Operator (CCO) for an upcoming structural steel erection project.
You will run mobile hydraulic cranes to set structural steel safely, precisely and efficiently, as part of a close erection crew of riggers, ironworkers and field welders. Your skill with load charts, lift planning, rigging and safety protocols will directly shape the project's success. Crane operation is the core of this role. When the crane isn't running, you'll be a working member of the erection crew. This is a temporary position for the length of the project. When the project is complete, there may be an opportunity to join LarRance Steel full-time as a member of our ironworker crew. That depends on your performance and skills, and on your interest in growing into ironwork beyond crane operation. Duties Operate mobile hydraulic crane to lift, set and position structural steel columns, beams, trusses, joists and deck bundles precisely and according to load handling procedures. Read and apply load charts, and calculate lift weights, radius and capacity before every pick. Review and follow lift plans, and take part in pre-lift and critical-lift planning with the foreman and rigging crew. Set up the crane safely, including outrigger placement, cribbing, ground conditions, swing radius and barricades. Take direction from qualified signalpersons by hand signal and radio, and keep clear communication with the rigging crew at all times. Maintain required clearances from power lines, structures and personnel, as set out in
OSHA 1926
Subpart CC (the OSHA crane safety rules for construction). Assist with receiving, unloading and staging structural steel on site, using forklifts or telehandlers as needed. When not operating the crane, help the erection crew with ironwork and structural welding, including rigging, bolt-up, fit-up and field welding of structural steel. Qualifications Current NCCCO (or equivalent nationally accredited) Mobile Crane Operator certification. 3+ years of crane operating experience on construction sites. Structural steel erection experience is strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of load charts, rigging techniques, crane signals and hydraulic systems. Familiarity with OSHA construction safety standards and a commitment to following safety protocols at all times. Clean record required (must pass a background check for military base access). Valid driver's license required. A commercial driver's license (CDL) is preferred for moving the crane and transport vehicles between job sites. Rigger or signalperson qualifications are a plus. Structural welding experience (Stick) is a plus. Reliable, punctual and physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
