Job Description

Summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable Journeyman Electrician to join our small, owner-operated electrical contracting business in central New Jersey. This position starts part-time with a flexible schedule and has the potential to grow into a full-time role as our workload expands. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems in residential and light commercial settings, working directly with the owner, a licensed electrician. Your work will comply with all safety standards and local codes, including NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code). The ideal candidate works independently, communicates well with customers, and takes pride in clean, high-quality work. Duties Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair residential and light commercial electrical systems. Perform service calls from diagnosis through completed repair with minimal supervision. Complete panel upgrades, service changes, new circuits, and wiring for renovations and additions. Install lighting, fans, outlets, switches, EV chargers, generators, and smoke/CO detectors. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams. Diagnose issues using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and multimeters. Follow all electrical safety procedures and ensure work passes inspection. Use hand and power tools safely in occupied homes and on job sites. Represent the company professionally with customers and keep work areas clean.
Requirements Journeyman-level experience:
4+ years of hands-on electrical work (NJ qualified journeyman registration a plus). Strong knowledge of
NEC/NFPA
70, local electrical codes, and safety procedures. Proven troubleshooting skills with standard diagnostic tools. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams. Ability to work independently on service calls and renovation projects. Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation. Own hand tools. Professional, courteous, and reliable with customers. Able to lift 50 lbs and work on ladders, in attics, and in crawl spaces. Interest in growing into a full-time position is a plus. Schedule and pay Part-time to start, with the schedule set in advance. $30 per hour, paid weekly. Independent contractor (1099) position.
