Department DSU-Physical Plant - Facilities Mgmt Physical Location of Position (City) Posting Text Put your electrical training to work this summer at Dakota State University! DSU is seeking an Electrical Apprentice for Summer 2027 to gain practical, hands-on experience while working alongside experienced facilities professionals. You'll have the opportunity to apply what you're learning in the classroom while assisting with electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and campus improvement projects. This is a temporary summer position working up to 40 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities:

Assist with preventive maintenance and inspection of electrical equipment throughout campus, including: Checking residence halls for faulty electrical equipment and assisting with repairs or replacement. Checking academic buildings for faulty electrical equipment and assisting with repairs or replacement. Assist with troubleshooting and corrective electrical repairs, including: Replacing light switches. Replacing electrical receptacles. Replacing light fixtures. Repairing electrical components associated with HVAC equipment, including relays and contactors. Assist with new electrical installations and campus improvement projects, including: Lighting replacement projects. Office remodels. Classroom remodels, including providing power and cabling for IT and audiovisual equipment. Locker room remodels. Qualifications Currently enrolled in an electrical, electrician, electrical technology, or closely related technical program. Foundational knowledge of electrical systems, components, and basic electrical principles. Familiarity with electrical tools, equipment, and basic installation and maintenance practices. Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to apply classroom and technical training in a hands-on work environment. Dependable work ethic with strong attention to detail and a commitment to workplace safety. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively as part of a team. Ability to perform physically demanding work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
