Job Description

Position Summary:
The Steel Erection Estimator plays a critical role in driving company growth by leading the bidding and pre-construction process. This position is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and strategic cost estimates for structural steel erection and pre-engineered metal building projects. From initial plan review through bid submission and project handoff, the Estimator ensures all aspects of scope, pricing, labor, materials, and risk are thoroughly evaluated to support successful project awards and execution.
Job Duties:
Estimating & Preconstruction Prepare detailed and competitive bid proposals for structural steel and metal building projects Perform complete quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents to define full project scope Develop accurate cost models including labor productivity, equipment, and material pricing Apply union labor rates, burden, and production factors where applicable Identify risks, gaps, and value engineering opportunities Bid Management Manage the full bid lifecycle from invitation to submission Coordinate and solicit pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers Lead RFI process during bidding to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies Assemble and submit complete bid packages on time Evaluate and select bid opportunities in coordination with leadership Collaboration & Communication Work closely with project managers, field leadership, and fabrication teams Support constructability reviews and validate production assumptions Maintain relationships with general contractors, vendors, and partners Participate in site visits to assess project conditions and constraints Post-Award Support Assist with project handoff to operations teams Provide detailed cost breakdowns and estimate assumptions Support ongoing cost tracking and budget adherence as needed Systems & Process Improvement Develop and maintain estimating templates, cost databases, and historical pricing Utilize estimating software and Excel-based tools for consistent outputs Maintain organized bid files and documentation
Qualifications and Skills:
Required Minimum 3-5+ years of estimatingexperience or a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management . Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications Hands-on understanding of steel erection means, methods, and sequencing Experience performing takeoffs and building estimates from the ground up Proficiency in Microsoft Suite; Word, Excel, Project and estimating software systems Preferred Field experience in steel erection or related construction trades
Knowledge of:
Pre-engineered metal building systems; Structural and miscellaneous metals; Roof and wall panel systems Familiarity with: AISC standards and AWS codes; Union labor practices and productivity rates; OSHA Construction Orders; Title 8 & 1926 Experience with software such as Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, or similar

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously Effective communication and negotiation skills Self-driven with the ability to work independently Team-oriented with a willingness to support operations and field teams
Minimum Requirements:
Working knowledge of steel building components and erection processes Ability to read and interpret erection drawings Familiarity with construction tools and jobsite practices Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Pay:
$85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
