This role will lead the development of competitive, accurate estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including excavation, drainage, water and sewer utilities, and roadway construction throughout the public infrastructure market.
The successful candidate will be responsible for estimating projects from concept through bid submission, pricing change orders and extra work requests, evaluating project risks, and collaborating closely with operations and project management teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator looking to play a key role in a growing organization with a clear path to senior leadership within the estimating department. Key ResponsibilitiesHeavy Civil Estimating Prepare detailed cost estimates for sitework, excavation, drainage, utility, and roadway construction projects. Perform quantity takeoffs, production analyses, and equipment planning. Develop self-perform and subcontractor pricing strategies. Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations. Identify project risks, constructability concerns, schedule impacts, and cost exposures. Support bid reviews, pricing strategy discussions, and project turnover meetings. Sitework & Utility Scope Earthwork, excavation, and mass grading. Storm drainage systems, culverts, and stormwater management facilities. Water main, sanitary sewer, force main, and utility infrastructure. Roadway construction, paving, curbing, traffic control, and site restoration. Compliance with CTDOT, municipal, and public agency specifications and standards. Change Orders & Extra Work Pricing Develop pricing for change orders and extra work requests across active projects. Prepare lump sum, unit price, force account, and time-and-material proposals. Analyze schedule impacts and recoverable costs. Support project teams during owner negotiations and contract modifications. Continuous Improvement Develop and maintain production rate libraries and estimating databases. Conduct post-bid and post-project reviews to improve future estimate accuracy. Help standardize estimating procedures and best practices across the organization. QualificationsRequired 5+ years of heavy civil estimating experience, or an equivalent combination of estimating and field supervision experience. Experience estimating excavation, drainage, utility, and roadway construction projects. Strong understanding of public works bidding and construction practices. Ability to interpret plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and utility records. Experience pricing change orders, force account work, and extra work requests. Proficiency with digital takeoff and estimating software. Preferred Experience with CTDOT, NYSDOT, or similar public infrastructure specifications. Proficiency with HeavyBid, B2W Estimate, AGTEK, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam Revu, or comparable platforms. OSHA 30 certification. Utility, excavation, or field operations experience. Knowledge of AWWA standards and underground utility construction practices.
Pay:
$125,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
