Job Description

Mechanical Estimator Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to join our team. This individual will play a key role in estimating the costs and manufacturing methods for mechanical components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in blueprint reading, machining, welding, assembly, and materials knowledge (including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum). The successful candidate will also possess a passion for excellence, a sense of urgency, and the ability to create detailed hand sketches for supplier quoting.

Key Responsibilities:

Blueprint Review & Analysis:

Thoroughly review technical drawings, blueprints, and design specifications to determine manufacturing methods, material requirements, and the scope of work involved in each project.

Manufacturing Methods & Process Evaluation:

Collaborate with engineering and production teams to assess and recommend the most efficient manufacturing processes, including machining, welding, and assembly.

Bill of Materials Creation:

Prepare a comprehensive bill of materials (BOM) for each project, ensuring all materials, parts, and components are accounted for and sourced at the best value.

Supplier Communication & Quoting:

Generate detailed hand sketches as needed and send drawings, sketches, and BOMs to external suppliers for pricing and quotations. Ensure all supplier quotes align with the project specifications and timelines.

In-House Coordination:

Work closely with in-house manufacturing departments to gather labor hour estimates, equipment usage, and any other factors affecting the project cost.

Cost Estimation & Quotation Preparation:

Prepare detailed cost estimates by evaluating material costs, labor hours, overhead, and supplier quotes. Develop a clear, competitive, and accurate quotation package to present to customers.

Customer Communication:

Prepare final quotations and send them to customers in a professional and timely manner. Be available to address any follow-up questions or adjustments based on customer feedback.

Ensure that all cost estimates, BOMs, drawings, and quotes are accurate, thorough, and reflect the highest standards of quality and professionalism.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

Blueprint Reading:

Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.

Material Knowledge:

In-depth knowledge of materials, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, and the ability to assess material suitability for various applications.

Manufacturing Process Expertise:

Familiarity with machining, welding, and assembly processes. Understanding of how these processes influence cost and manufacturing timelines.

Strong attention to detail, ensuring that all estimates and documents are complete, precise, and error-free.

Hand Sketching:

Ability to create accurate and clear hand sketches to communicate design ideas and requirements for supplier quoting.

Sense of Urgency:

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple projects and delivering accurate results under tight deadlines.

Communication Skills:

Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.

Educational & Experience Requirements:

Education:

A certificate in Mechanical Technology, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a mechanical estimation, manufacturing, or related field, with hands-on experience in blueprint reading, materials handling, and cost estimation.

Software Skills:

Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.). Experience with CAD and ERP software is a plus.

Work Environment:

This position will be based in a manufacturing environment with occasional site visits to suppliers or production areas. The Mechanical Estimator will be part of a collaborative team focused on delivering high-quality products to customers.

Job Types:

$19.00 - $20.00 per hour
