Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Industrial Fabrication & Machine Shop Estimator to join our growing manufacturing team. This position is responsible for evaluating a wide variety of custom fabrication, machining, welding, sheet metal, structural, and industrial manufacturing projects. Successful candidates will possess a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, material specifications, production methods, and cost analysis. The estimator must be capable of reviewing customer requirements and determining the labor, material, machine, outside processing, tooling, and scheduling requirements necessary to produce profitable and competitive quotations. This role requires sound technical judgment, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, engineering, purchasing, production, and management personnel. Primary Responsibilities The Estimator will be responsible for: Reviewing customer RFQs, drawings, CAD models, specifications, and supporting documentation. Developing accurate and timely quotations for custom fabricated and machined components and assemblies. Determining material requirements and obtaining current material pricing. Estimating labor, machine time, setup, programming, tooling, fixturing, inspection, and material handling requirements. Evaluating manufacturing methods and determining the most cost-effective production approach. Identifying outside processing requirements, including heat treating, plating, painting, powder coating, grinding, finishing, specialty machining, and other subcontracted services. Obtaining vendor quotations and lead-time information for purchased components and outsourced processing. Reviewing projects for manufacturability and identifying potential production challenges before quotes are submitted. Identifying missing, conflicting, or unclear customer requirements and obtaining clarification when necessary. Coordinating with engineering, purchasing, production, quality, and management to ensure estimate accuracy. Maintaining organized quotation records and supporting documentation. Ensuring estimates are based on the correct drawing revision, specifications, material requirements, and customer standards. Assisting in the development of realistic lead-times based on production capacity and vendor capabilities. Following up on quotations when appropriate and supporting business development efforts. Supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating accuracy, profitability, and process efficiency. Manufacturing Knowledge & Experience Qualified candidates should possess a strong understanding of: CNC machining operations Manual machining processes Sheet metal fabrication Laser cutting Forming and bending Structural fabrication Welding processes Mechanical assembly Material handling methods Inspection and quality requirements Outside processing and finishing operations Candidates must be able to determine the appropriate manufacturing processes required to produce customer parts and assemblies while accurately accounting for all associated costs. Engineering Drawing & CAD Interpretation Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in: Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation Understanding dimensions, tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) Interpreting weld symbols, surface finish requirements, and material specifications Reviewing 3D CAD models and assemblies Identifying complex features, critical tolerances, special processes, and manufacturing risk factors Recognizing drawing revisions and revision-controlled documentation Visualizing how parts and assemblies will be manufactured based on drawings and CAD data Material Knowledge Candidates should possess working knowledge of: Carbon steel Stainless steel Aluminum Cast materials Tool steels Alloy materials Structural shapes Plate, sheet, tubing, and bar stock products The successful candidate must understand how material type, grade, availability, processing requirements, and market conditions impact both cost and lead time. Estimating & Cost Analysis Skills Candidates should demonstrate the ability to: Develop accurate labor and machine-hour estimates Calculate setup, run-time, programming, tooling, and inspection requirements Analyze manufacturing costs and profitability Evaluate overhead, burden, and margin requirements Assess estimating risk and uncertainty Utilize historical job costing data to improve estimate accuracy Identify opportunities for cost reduction and manufacturing improvements Develop quotations for prototype, short-run, and production manufacturing projects

Computer & Software Skills Required:

Paperless Parts ERP/MRP systems CAD viewing and modeling software Manufacturing estimating software PDF markup and document review software Candidates must be comfortable managing large volumes of customer drawings, CAD files, specifications, revisions, quotations, and supporting documentation while maintaining accurate records and document control. Desired Qualifications 5+ years of experience in fabrication, machining, manufacturing, engineering, project management, or estimating. Previous estimating experience within a fabrication, machine shop, or industrial manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple RFQs and deadlines simultaneously. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
