Job Description

Landscape Architect / Landscape Designer Berkshire Design Group - Northampton, MA Berkshire Design Group is looking for a landscape architect or landscape designer with 3-5 years of professional experience to join our collaborative team of landscape architects, civil engineers, and land surveyors in Northampton, MA. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of a wide range of projects, from initial concepts and site planning through construction documentation and implementation. You will have the opportunity to work closely with senior staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and see your designs come to life. Our recent work has included new public-school buildings, public parks and recreational facilities, rehabilitation of state parks, multi-million-dollar commercial and residential developments, and master planning for institutional campuses throughout the Northeast. We work in our own communities, so we pass by our projects every day, which makes even small ones feel significant. We are looking for someone with strong design skills, creativity, and a solid understanding of site planning, grading, landscape design, and construction documentation. You should be comfortable developing design concepts, preparing plans and details, and communicating ideas through freehand sketches, digital graphics, and presentation materials. Proficiency in AutoCAD and digital illustration and graphic presentation software is important. Experience with Civil 3D, QGIS, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design and visualization tools is a plus. Ideally, you have a degree in Landscape Architecture and 3-5 years of experience working in a professional design office. Professional licensure is a plus but is not required. We welcome candidates who are working toward licensure and interested in expanding their technical expertise, design responsibilities, and project management skills. Responsibilities will grow with your experience, with opportunities to participate in client meetings, coordinate with consultants, and assist with construction administration and field observations. Beyond technical qualifications, strong written and verbal communication skills matter to us. We value people who are creative, organized, comfortable working independently, and eager to collaborate across disciplines. We also recognize the importance of professional growth and provide opportunities to learn directly from experienced landscape architects, engineers, and surveyors. Whether you're working toward professional licensure, developing your technical skills, or looking to take on greater design and project management responsibilities, we encourage professional development and mentorship as part of your career at BDG. The people who do well here enjoy solving design challenges, take ownership of their work, and appreciate the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the communities where we live and work. We offer health and dental insurance, paid time off, holiday time, a
SIMPLE IRA
plan, and flexible spending accounts. Most importantly, we offer a friendly, creative, and collaborative work environment where your ideas and contributions matter. To learn more about our people and our work, visit us at www.berkshiredesign.com.
