Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our winter operations team. In this role, you will operate a variety of heavy machinery to clear commercial parking lots, manage snow storage, and ensure safe, efficient snow removal during winter weather events. This is a fast-paced, weather-dependent position requiring flexibility, precision, and a strong commitment to safety. Core Responsibilities Snow Clearing & Site Management Plow commercial lots using heavy equipment (e.g., wheel loaders, skid steers) to ensure safe driving and parking conditions. Stack snow efficiently in designated areas on-site to maximize parking availability and maintain clear traffic lanes. Navigate tight spaces and high-traffic areas safely without damaging curbs, light poles, or landscaping. Loading & Hauling Support Load dump trucks rapidly and safely with accumulated snow for off-site hauling. Coordinate with truck drivers to maintain a smooth, continuous flow of traffic and prevent loading zone bottlenecks. Monitor load capacities to ensure trucks are filled efficiently without spilling debris onto public roads. Snow Dump Site Operations Operate a bulldozer at the designated snow repository to manage incoming snow loads. Push and stack snow piles to maximize the storage capacity of the snow dump site. Maintain site grading and ensure safe entry and exit paths for incoming dump trucks. Equipment Care & Safety Perform pre-trip inspections on all assigned machinery to check fluids, attachments, and mechanical safety. Report maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions immediately to the shop foreman or supervisor. Adhere to safety protocols at all times, including wearing proper PPE and maintaining high situational awareness in low-visibility conditions. Required Skills & Qualifications Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, skid steers, and bulldozers (snow removal experience preferred). Strong spatial awareness and the ability to operate large machinery in dark, slick, or low-visibility conditions. Mechanical aptitude to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and daily fluid checks. Clear communication skills to coordinate effectively with dump truck drivers and ground crews via two-way radio. Physical stamina to handle long shifts, repetitive movements, and harsh winter weather environments.
