Job Description

Heavy Equipment Operator Black Mountain Excavation — Milliken, Colorado Position Summary Black Mountain Excavation is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate has strong operating experience with excavators, loaders, and skid steers and understands how to safely and efficiently perform dirt work, grading, excavation, and site development. This position is a hands-on field position . Our operators are expected to do more than operate equipment. When equipment is not being operated or the project requires it, the employee must be willing to perform general construction labor and work alongside the crew . We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, operates equipment safely, pays attention to detail, and is willing to do whatever is necessary to help the project get completed correctly and efficiently.
Responsibilities Safely and efficiently operate:
Excavators Wheel loaders Skid steers Other heavy equipment as needed Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, loading, trenching, and material handling. Fine-grade and rough-grade according to plans, elevations, stakes, and site conditions. Load and move dirt, rock, aggregate, and other materials. Assist with utility installation, site preparation, road construction, and general civil construction. Perform daily equipment inspections and identify maintenance or mechanical issues. Maintain safe working distances from employees, utilities, structures, vehicles, and other equipment. Follow project plans, grade stakes, GPS systems, and directions from foremen and project management. Assist laborers and other crew members when equipment operation is not required. Perform manual labor including shoveling, raking, spotting equipment, installing pipe, cleanup, material handling, and other construction tasks. Help with site cleanup and maintaining an organized and safe jobsite. Communicate effectively with operators, laborers, foremen, and project managers. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements. Maintain a professional attitude and represent Black Mountain Excavation positively on the jobsite. Required Qualifications Previous heavy equipment operating experience required.
Demonstrated experience operating:
Excavators Wheel loaders Skid steers Experience in excavation, dirt work, grading, utilities, civil construction, or site development preferred. Ability to read and understand basic construction plans, grades, and site markings. Ability to safely work around other equipment, workers, and underground utilities. Valid driver's license. Reliable transportation to and from jobsites. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift, carry, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical construction labor. Willingness to perform labor work when required. What We're Looking For The right candidate is someone who: Can operate equipment without constant supervision. Knows how to run an excavator, loader, and skid steer efficiently. Can dig to grade and understands how to work around utilities. Takes pride in producing quality work. Understands that everyone on the crew works when the job needs it . Is willing to get out of the machine and help the labor crew. Shows up on time and is dependable. Takes safety seriously. Takes direction and communicates well. Takes care of company equipment. Works well as part of a team. Is willing to learn and take on additional responsibilities. Physical Requirements This is a physically demanding construction position.
Employees may be required to:
Sit and operate heavy equipment for extended periods. Climb in and out of equipment. Lift and carry materials and tools. Shovel, rake, dig, and perform other manual labor. Work on uneven terrain. Work around dust, dirt, noise, and construction equipment. Work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, and other adverse weather conditions.
