Foreman Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman to lead excavation and site work operations while actively operating heavy machinery. This position will oversee daily activities in the field, coordinate crews, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans and specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong excavation experience, knowledge of utility and drainage installation, and the ability to confidently operate a variety of heavy equipment. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires good communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. We offer competitive wages/salary, benefits, and a 401(k) program.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate daily excavation and site work activities, including trenching, grading, drainage, and utility installation. Direct and coordinate field crews to ensure work is completed efficiently and according to project schedules. Operate excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, and other heavy equipment as needed. Perform grading and site preparation, including placing and spreading materials to the required elevations and grades. Excavate trenches for water, sewer, drainage, and other utility systems while maintaining proper slopes and elevations. Assist with the installation and placement of shoring, trench boxes, and other protective systems when required. Load, move, and place soil, stone, and other materials using various types of heavy equipment. Read and follow blueprints, site plans, elevations, and project specifications. Monitor job-site conditions and identify potential equipment, safety, or construction issues. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company policies, project requirements, and applicable safety regulations. Communicate with project managers, supervisors, operators, laborers, and other contractors to keep projects on schedule. Inspect equipment before and during use, recognize mechanical issues, and report problems as needed. Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining awareness of surrounding workers, vehicles, utilities, and site conditions.
Skills & Qualifications:
Previous experience operating heavy excavation equipment in a construction or site-work environment. Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, drainage, and underground utility installation. Experience working with trenching, proper slopes, shoring, and trench boxes. Ability to read and understand blueprints, site plans, grades, and elevations. Strong understanding of construction-site safety practices and regulations. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively direct and coordinate a crew. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to recognize and troubleshoot basic equipment issues. Ability to operate heavy machinery safely, efficiently, and with good judgment. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to work outdoors and perform physically demanding work as required.
