JOB SUMMARY

The Heavy Equipment Operator supports oilfield construction and production activities by safely operating heavy machinery to move earth, materials, and equipment on job sites. This role performs grading, excavation, trenching, loading, backfilling, and site maintenance while following all safety, environmental, and company procedures. Reliable operation, attention to detail, and effective communication with supervisors and crews are essential.

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES

Safely operate dozers/bulldozers, trackhoe/excavators, wheel loaders, and backhoes for earthwork and material handling

Perform grading, cut/fill, berm construction, right-of-way clearing, lease road maintenance, and pad building

trenching, excavation, pit/containment construction, and backfilling to specification

Load/unload trucks and stage materials, pipe, and equipment using loaders and backhoes

Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections; identify and report defects, leaks, or hazards

Read and follow site maps, line-locates, job tickets, and supervisor instructions

Maintain safe work areas; assist with general labor tasks (spotting, flagging, housekeeping) as needed

Comply with company policies, oilfield site rules, and applicable safety/environmental regulations

Complete basic paperwork (daily logs, inspection forms, tickets) accurately and on time

COMPETENCIES / SKILLS

Proficient operation of dozers, excavators (trackhoe), loaders, and backhoes in varied terrain

Working knowledge of soil conditions, slopes/grade, trenching safety, and equipment limits

Ability to read stakes/marks and follow grade requirements; GPS/grade control experience is a plus

Strong situational awareness and commitment to safe work practices

Mechanical aptitude for basic troubleshooting (pins, hoses, fittings, fluids)

Effective communication and teamwork with dispatch, supervisors, and other crews

Dependability, problem-solving, and adaptability to changing field conditions and priorities

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primarily outdoors with exposure to heat/cold, wind, dust, noise, and oilfield hazards

Frequent climbing on/off equipment; sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and kneeling

Regular handling of tools, rigging, and materials; ability to lift and carry 50-75 lbs

Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, FR clothing, steel-toe boots, gloves; hearing protection as needed)

Irregular schedules may include long shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call work

QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience operating dozers/bulldozers, trackhoe/excavators, loaders, and backhoes required

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Oilfield experience and safety training preferred

Familiarity with trenching/ground-disturbance best practices; confined space and spotting/flagging knowledge a plus

Ability to pass pre-employment screenings as required drug alcohol testing and driving record.

Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
