Small Equipment Operator

Job Description

Position Overview The Small Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating various types of small construction and site-preparation equipment. This position supports site development, land clearing, grading, excavation, utility installation, and other construction activities while maintaining equipment and following all company safety policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely operate assigned small equipment, which may include skid steers, compact track loaders, mini excavators, small loaders, trenchers, compactors, and other assigned construction or site-preparation equipment.
  • Perform daily pre-operation inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns immediately.
  • Complete basic equipment maintenance, including fueling, greasing, cleaning, and checking fluid levels as directed.
  • Assist with grading, excavation, trenching, backfilling, material handling, site cleanup, and other site-development activities.
  • Load, move, and place materials safely and accurately.
  • Follow instructions from the Foreman, Superintendent, or other designated supervisor.
  • Work safely around underground utilities, structures, other equipment, employees, and the general public.
  • Assist crew members with general labor duties when equipment operation is not required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow company safety rules, PPE requirements, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Report accidents, equipment damage, unsafe conditions, or injuries immediately.
  • Assist with loading and securing equipment for transportation when assigned.
  • Maintain productivity while protecting company equipment and property.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
  • Previous experience operating construction or site-development equipment preferred.
  • Experience operating skid steers, compact track loaders, mini excavators, or similar equipment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of construction-site safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Reliable attendance and dependable transportation.
  • Valid driver's license preferred or required, depending on job duties.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work around loud equipment, dust, mud, uneven terrain, and moving machinery.
Ability to work extended hours or overtime as business needs require
Pay:
$22.00 - $26.00 per hour
