Underground Utility Excavator Operator
Job Description
Description Safely operates excavators to support underground utility installation on Morgan Corp.'s heavy civil construction projects. Works collaboratively with utility crews to perform excavation activities safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and company standards. Key Responsibilities Essential Functions/Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate excavators to support the installation of underground utilities, including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage systems. Excavate to required grades, depths, and alignments in accordance with project plans and specifications. Work closely with Pipe Layers, Top Men, Foremen, and utility crews to support safe and efficient installation activities. Perform precision excavation around existing underground utilities and other structures. Conduct pre-operational inspections, routine maintenance, and safety walk-arounds on assigned equipment. Maintain assigned equipment in good operating condition and promptly report maintenance needs or equipment deficiencies. Complete required inspections, equipment reports, production documentation, and other required records. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific requirements. Operate equipment safely around personnel, utilities, and other construction equipment. Maintain productivity while minimizing damage to underground infrastructure and surrounding work areas. Additional Duties Maintain assigned equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Participate in required safety meetings and training. Assist with general construction activities as needed. Extended hours, overtime, weekends, and/or night shifts may be required. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Education & Experience High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience operating excavators on underground utility construction projects required. Experience excavating for water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage systems preferred. Experience reading grade stakes, utility plans, and construction drawings preferred. OSHA construction safety training preferred. Other Requirements Valid driver's license required. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening. Position must follow Morgan Corp.'s Fit for Duty Physical Program. Ability to work extended hours, overtime, weekends, and/or night shifts as project schedules require. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and other environmental conditions common to heavy civil construction. Strong commitment to Morgan Corp.'s safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to solve problems and adapt to changing job site conditions and limited supervision.
