MUST HAVE PRIOR RGN AND HEAVY-EQUIPMENT HAULING EXPERIENCE

Mike's Westside Rental is seeking an experienced RGN Driver

  • Regional Class A CDL / Heavy Haul to provide transportation support across our growing network of Texas branches.

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation, delivery, pickup, and transfer of construction and heavy equipment between Mike's Westside Rental locations and customer jobsites throughout Texas. This is not a standard Class A driving position. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience operating RGN (Removable Gooseneck) and lowboy trailers , transporting heavy construction equipment, securing complex loads, and handling overweight and oversize loads when required. Unlike a driver assigned exclusively to one branch, this position will travel throughout Texas to support changing delivery volumes, fleet transfers, and driver coverage across our locations. The driver will work closely with branch teams, operations personnel, and customers while representing Mike's Westside Rental with professionalism and a strong commitment to safety and service. This position is primarily home daily with occasional overnight travel based on route, branch, and operational needs. Because routes may involve extended travel between locations throughout Texas, early mornings and longer workdays should be expected. Occasional weekend availability may also be required.

The job:

Provide regional heavy-haul transportation support across Mike's Westside Rental branches and service areas throughout Texas. Safely transport, deliver, retrieve, and transfer construction and heavy equipment using RGN, lowboy, flatbed, dovetail, and other equipment trailers as assigned. Safely detach, lower, reconnect, and operate removable gooseneck trailer systems during loading and unloading. Load and unload heavy construction equipment while evaluating machine weight, dimensions, configuration, trailer capacity, and safe placement. Complete branch-to-branch fleet transfers based on equipment demand and operational needs. Assist branches with high delivery volumes, fleet repositioning, and temporary driver coverage. Transport overweight and oversize loads in accordance with applicable permits, route restrictions, and regulatory requirements. Properly position equipment and distribute load weight based on trailer configuration, axle capacity, equipment weight, and applicable legal limits. Secure equipment using appropriate chains, binders, straps, blocking, and other securement methods in accordance with DOT requirements and company safety standards. Verify load height, width, length, weight, securement, and overall transport readiness before leaving a branch, yard, or jobsite. Conduct required truck, trailer, and equipment inspections before and after pickups, deliveries, and transfers. Promptly report damage, mechanical concerns, or unsafe conditions. Operate commercial and non-commercial vehicles safely and professionally. Navigate congested metropolitan roadways, rural highways, active construction zones, adverse weather, confined jobsites, narrow access points, and restricted loading and unloading areas. Maintain clear and timely communication with branch personnel regarding schedules, route changes, delays, customer concerns, equipment condition, and other issues affecting transportation. Promptly communicate delays caused by breakdowns, weather, traffic, permitting, jobsite access, or other circumstances affecting timely delivery or pickup. Interact professionally with customers and provide general guidance regarding the safe operation of delivered equipment when appropriate. Follow all safety requirements and site-specific rules at customer jobsites, company facilities, and Mike's Westside Rental branches. Maintain trucks, trailers, chains, straps, binders, flags, signage, and other transportation and securement equipment in a clean, organized, and safe operating condition. Ensure delivery tickets, pickup and transfer documentation, inspection records, permits, driver logs, and other required documentation are accurate, complete, and maintained each day. Remain flexible throughout the workday to accommodate changing branch requirements, fleet needs, routes, and customer schedules. Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, safety, and exceptional customer service.

Requirements:

Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. Current DOT medical examiner's certificate. Minimum of 3 years of professional heavy-equipment hauling experience required. Hands-on RGN/removable gooseneck and lowboy trailer experience required. Demonstrated experience loading, unloading, transporting, and securing heavy construction equipment. Experience transporting overweight and oversize loads , including working with applicable permits, route restrictions, and load requirements. Flatbed, dovetail, lowboy, and other equipment-hauling trailer experience strongly preferred. Working knowledge of equipment weights, trailer capacities, axle weight limitations, load distribution, and transport height and width restrictions. Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations, hours-of-service requirements, vehicle and trailer inspections, load-securement requirements, and safe commercial driving practices. Ability to properly use chains, binders, straps, blocking, and other equipment required to safely secure heavy machinery. Experience safely operating construction equipment sufficiently to load and unload machinery from trailers. Experience navigating and delivering equipment in congested metropolitan areas, suburban locations, rural areas, and active construction sites. Prior commercial driving experience within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex or similarly congested metropolitan areas strongly preferred. Ability to safely navigate extended routes, heavy traffic, unfamiliar locations, customer jobsites, and confined loading and unloading areas. Flexibility to travel between Mike's Westside Rental locations throughout Texas and support changing regional transportation needs. Ability to work early mornings, extended workdays, occasional overnight travel, and occasional weekends as operational needs require. Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen and participate in all required DOT drug and alcohol testing programs. Exceptional customer service, teamwork, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent communication with branch and operations teams. Strong commitment to safety, professionalism, dependable attendance, and proper care of company equipment. High school diploma or GED preferred.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

Must meet FMCSA physical qualification requirements and maintain a valid medical examiner's certificate. Ability to sit for extended periods while operating commercial vehicles. Ability to climb in and out of truck cabs, trailers, and construction equipment multiple times throughout the workday. Ability to safely climb onto and work around RGN and other equipment trailers during loading, unloading, inspection, and securement. Ability to secure heavy loads, including lifting, pulling, positioning, and tightening chains, straps, binders, and blocking materials. Ability to occasionally lift equipment, ramps, securement devices, or other materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and maintain balance while loading, unloading, inspecting, and securing equipment. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during deliveries, pickups, and equipment transfers. Regular exposure to traffic hazards, noise, vibration, construction environments, heavy machinery, and varying road and jobsite conditions.

Please note:

This role is classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with Mike's Westside Rental policies and procedures. If you are an experienced RGN and heavy-equipment driver who takes pride in safely moving large equipment, providing dependable service, and supporting a growing Texas equipment rental company, we encourage you to apply.
