Day shift Job Overview Payson Recycling & Steel is hiring a hardworking, confident, and personable Yard Hand with heavy equipment experience for its growing scrap metal and recycling operation in West Payson. This position combines heavy equipment operation with physically demanding yard labor. You will operate equipment to move and process materials, but you must also be willing to work on the ground sorting scrap, unloading customers, shoveling, cleaning, and helping wherever needed. This is not an equipment-only position. We need someone versatile, dependable, and willing to do whatever reasonable work is required to keep the yard safe and productive. As the company grows, you may be asked to fill in across different parts of the operation. Responsibilities Safely operate loaders, excavators, material handlers, skid steers, forklifts, or similar equipment Move, load, unload, sort, stack, and organize scrap and recyclable materials Perform physical yard labor whenever not operating equipment Help customers unload materials safely Provide friendly and professional assistance to customers, drivers, and vendors Sort ferrous and nonferrous metals and other recyclable materials Load and unload trucks, trailers, bins, dumpsters, and containers Sweep, shovel, clean, and remove debris from work areas Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns Keep equipment, traffic lanes, processing areas, and the overall yard clean and organized Follow instructions and learn material categories and yard procedures Take initiative and identify work that needs to be completed Fill in wherever needed as the company grows Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE Complete other yard and material-handling duties as assigned Qualifications Heavy equipment operating experience is required Heavy labor experience is required Experience operating loaders, excavators, material handlers, skid steers, forklifts, or similar equipment is strongly preferred Scrap metal, recycling, construction, demolition, excavation, concrete, landscaping, agricultural, or industrial experience is preferred Must be willing to perform physical labor in addition to operating equipment Must be confident, personable, and comfortable interacting with customers Must communicate professionally with customers, drivers, vendors, and coworkers Must be flexible and willing to fill in wherever needed Must be dependable, coachable, and able to follow direction Must take initiative and work productively without constant supervision Must be comfortable working outdoors in changing weather Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds repeatedly Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, shovel, and perform physical work throughout the shift Reliable attendance and a team-first attitude are required Work Environment This position works in an active outdoor scrap and recycling yard around customers, trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, containers, sharp metal, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions. Employees regularly move between operating equipment, performing yard labor, sorting materials, cleaning, and assisting customers. About Payson Recycling & Steel Payson Recycling & Steel is a locally owned and operated company serving West Payson and surrounding Utah communities. The company purchases and processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal and provides new and surplus steel sales, trucking, trans-loading, bin and dumpster service, demolition support, onsite torch cutting, certified destruction, and roll-off services. Pay:
$17.00 - $23.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Are you willing and physically able to perform demanding yard labor throughout the shift, including lifting 50+ pounds, sorting scrap, unloading customers, shoveling, sweeping, and cleaning? This is not an equipment-only position. Are you willing to fill in wherever needed—including general labor, cleanup, material sorting, and customer assistance—as the company grows? Are you confident and personable when interacting with customers, drivers, vendors, and coworkers, and can you maintain dependable attendance while working outdoors in changing weather conditions?
