Experienced Painter DeMars Construction | Mankato Minnesota
STATUS COMPENSATION WORK STYLE REPORTS TO
Full-time, non-exempt $28.00-$35.00/hr On-site and field Director of Residential Construction Position Summary The Experienced Painter is responsible for preparing and finishing interior and exterior surfaces on custom residential construction projects to a high standard. This is a senior, hands-on role that requires developing a plan of action to complete each project, working across trades and departments so that project needs are met within schedule and budget, and applying strong attention to detail, knowledge of surface preparation, and safe work practices throughout. This is a hands-on, field-based role within DeMars Construction, which builds custom homes with a focus on quality, craftsmanship, and consistency. Team members are expected to take ownership of their work, follow established systems, and contribute to overall project success. Reporting The Experienced Painter reports to the Director of Residential Construction, who assigns projects, sets priorities, and reviews the quality of completed work. Painters are expected to communicate proactively with supervisors and coordinate with other trades and project team members to keep work on schedule. Core Responsibilities Treat all interactions with clients, suppliers, team members, and other construction professionals with respect and professionalism. Develop a plan of action for each project, coordinating within budget and schedule constraints and across departments. Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and patching prior to painting; fill cracks, holes, and joints with appropriate materials. Apply primers, sealants, paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers to achieve clean lines, smooth finishes, and consistent coverage. Execute detailed finish work on trim, cabinetry, and custom features characteristic of custom-built homes. Protect surrounding areas, including floors, fixtures, and trim, with drop cloths or masking materials during painting. Operate and maintain painting tools and equipment, including sprayers, ladders, and scaffolding. Maintain a clean and organized job site and workspace. Communicate proactively with supervisors regarding job progress, needs, and timelines. Follow proper safety procedures, including safe practices at heights, and handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with Minnesota regulations. Required Qualifications At least 5 years of proven painting experience, with custom residential experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of professional painting tools, materials, techniques, and surface-preparation methods. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality, detailed finishes with strong attention to detail and craftsmanship. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with strong time management. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders regularly. Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work safely on ladders and scaffolding. Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites. Reliable transportation to job sites. Preferred Traits Takes pride in high-end finish work. Position Details Item Details Employer DeMars Construction Employment Status Regular, full-time, non-exempt (hourly) employee. Compensation $28.00-$35.00 per hour, depending on experience, skill level, and quality of work. Schedule Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed based on project demands. Work Location Primarily on-site at residential construction project sites in the Mankato area. Benefits Health-insurance contribution, paid time off, and benefits and leave required by law. Equipment and Tools Standard painting tools and equipment are used on site; required personal protective equipment (PPE) follows company and job-site safety policy. Mileage and Travel Reliable personal transportation to job sites is required.
