Job Description

Fire Sprinkler Installation / Service Trainee Williams Fire Sprinkler Company, Inc. (WFSC) is a growing fire protection and security contractor that has provided system design, installation, inspection, and service throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina since 1972. Although our service area continues to grow, we remain a small-town Southern company with a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere. We are looking for a dependable, motivated individual who is willing to work hard and learn the fire sprinkler trade. This is a hands-on position with opportunities for continued training, advancement, and cross-training in other fire protection systems. Job Summary The Fire Sprinkler Installer/Apprentice will work under the direction of an experienced foreman or supervisor to install, modify, service, and test fire sprinkler systems. This is an entry-level position, so previous fire sprinkler experience is not required. However, construction, plumbing, mechanical, or related trade experience is a plus. The right person will be mechanically inclined, dependable, safety-minded, and willing to learn. As experience and knowledge increase, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and advance within the company. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the installation, modification, repair, and servicing of fire sprinkler systems. Follow written and verbal instructions from foremen, supervisors, and project managers. Learn to read and understand fire sprinkler drawings, blueprints, specifications, and job-site plans. Learn the NFPA standards and other codes that apply to fire sprinkler installation. Measure, cut, thread, groove, assemble, and install piping and fittings. Install hangers, brackets, clamps, and other supports used to secure sprinkler piping. Assist with installing sprinkler heads, valves, drains, risers, and other system components. Learn to safely operate power threaders, grooving machines, cutting tools, drills, hand tools, ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts. Assist with hydrostatic, air, and other required system testing. Inspect completed work for leaks, proper installation, and general workmanship. Load, unload, organize, and properly store piping, fittings, tools, and equipment. Keep work areas clean and organized throughout the job. Help maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working condition. Follow all company safety policies and wear the required personal protective equipment. Communicate clearly with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and other trades on the job site. Work productively as part of a crew and help keep assigned projects on schedule. Complete daily paperwork, time entries, and job documentation as required. Be willing to travel to different job sites within the company's service area. Perform other fire protection and construction-related duties as assigned. Physical and Work Requirements Fire sprinkler installation is physically demanding work. Applicants must be able to safely perform the following: Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull heavy piping, materials, tools, and equipment. Work from ladders at heights of approximately 20 feet. Work from scaffolding and aerial lifts at heights of up to approximately 80 feet. Bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach overhead, and remain on their feet for extended periods. Work indoors and outdoors in changing weather and job-site conditions. Work around active construction areas, equipment, noise, dust, and other common job-site conditions. Wear required PPE, including a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, work boots, hearing protection, and fall-protection equipment when required. Clearly receive, understand, and communicate job instructions and safety information. Qualifications No previous fire sprinkler experience is required; this is an entry-level position. Construction, plumbing, mechanical, or fire protection experience is preferred but not required. Must be mechanically inclined and comfortable working with tools. Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to work. Must be willing to learn new skills and accept instruction. Must be able to work well with others as part of a crew. Must have good communication and customer-service skills. Must be able to follow job-site rules and company safety requirements. Must be able to pass the company's pre-employment and ongoing drug-screening requirements. Must have reliable transportation to the designated job site or daily meeting location. A valid driver's license and clean driving record are preferred. Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, or participate in on-call work when needed.
