1. Position Summary The Commercial Plumber is responsible for the installation of commercial plumbing systems — including water distribution piping, drain-waste-vent (DWV) systems, gas piping, fixtures, water heaters, and backflow prevention devices — in accordance with manufacturer specifications, project drawings, and applicable plumbing codes. This role is primarily focused on new construction and renovation installation work, with the ability to float to service and repair tasks as scheduling requires. 2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Read and interpret plumbing drawings, isometrics, blueprints, submittals, and specifications to plan and execute commercial plumbing installations. Install commercial plumbing systems, including water distribution piping, DWV systems, gas piping, fixtures, water heaters, backflow preventers, and grease traps/interceptors. Cut, join, and install pipe (copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and steel) using soldering, brazing, threading, solvent welding, and press-fit methods, as appropriate. Perform rough-in and trim-out plumbing work in accordance with approved drawings and applicable plumbing codes (IPC/UPC as adopted by the local jurisdiction). Set and connect plumbing fixtures, including sinks, toilets, floor drains, water heaters, and backflow/RPZ assemblies. Coordinate with general contractors, project managers, and other trades to sequence rough-in and trim-out work and meet project schedules. Pressure test and leak-test installed piping systems and fixtures prior to close-in and final inspection. Float to service and repair tasks as needed, including diagnosing and repairing leaks, clogs, water heater issues, and fixture malfunctions. Support inspections by code officials and correct any deficiencies identified. Complete required documentation, including installation checklists, material logs, and daily field reports. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site; comply with all company and OSHA safety requirements. Operate and maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in accordance with KMI Services policy. Participate in on-call rotation and respond to service or installation issues outside normal business hours, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. 3. Qualifications 3.1 Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required; completion of a formal plumbing apprenticeship program preferred. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience installing commercial plumbing systems required; 5+ years preferred for lead-level assignments. Experience with new construction and renovation projects in commercial settings preferred; prior service/repair experience a plus. 3.2 Certifications & Licenses Journeyman Plumber license (or state-recognized equivalent) required, or eligibility to obtain within a defined period. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required. OSHA 10-Hour construction safety certification required; OSHA 30 preferred. Backflow prevention assembly tester certification a plus. Medical gas installer certification a plus, where applicable to assigned projects. 3.3 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of IPC/UPC plumbing codes and applicable local amendments. Proficiency reading plumbing drawings, isometrics, and equipment submittals. Skilled in soldering, brazing, threading, solvent welding, and press-fit piping practices. Basic understanding of backflow prevention principles and grease trap/interceptor systems. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a crew with minimal supervision. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious work ethic. 4. Physical Demands & Work Environment Regularly lifts and carries equipment and materials weighing up to 75 lbs; occasionally up to 100 lbs with assistance. Frequently works in confined spaces, including crawlspaces, trenches, and mechanical rooms; occasional work at heights via ladders or lifts. Exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions on job sites. Extended periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and crawling. Travel to job sites required; some overnight or out-of-town travel may be necessary. Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screening and background checks. 5. Tools & Equipment Company-issued and/or personal hand and power tools appropriate for plumbing installation, per KMI Services' Tool Inspection SOP. Pipe threading, cutting, and press-fit tools; soldering and brazing equipment. Pressure testing equipment and leak detectors. Drain cleaning and camera inspection equipment (for service/repair float tasks). Material-handling equipment as needed (certification provided/required). Personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by KMI Services safety policy and job site requirements.

Pay:

$24.00 - $32.00 per hour
