Master Plumber Job Description This role focuses on service work and project oversight across residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing systems. The master plumber diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of plumbing issues, ensures all work meets code and quality standards, and serves as the licensed professional responsible for permit sign-off and compliance. The position also provides guidance and mentorship to apprentices and journeyman plumbers while supporting estimating, scheduling, and inspections. Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing systems, including water, waste, vent, gas, and fixture systems. Respond promptly and professionally to service calls and provide effective solutions to plumbing issues. Perform detailed inspections of plumbing systems and provide clear recommendations to customers. Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through professional communication, clean work practices, and quality workmanship. Complete service documentation, work orders, and job reports accurately and in a timely manner. Act as the licensed professional responsible for permit sign-off and ensuring code compliance for all plumbing work. Review plumbing installations to verify quality, safety, and adherence to workmanship standards. Coordinate inspections with local municipalities and inspectors to ensure all work passes required reviews. Ensure all work complies with Minnesota Plumbing Code and relevant local jurisdiction requirements. Maintain required professional licensing and complete necessary continuing education to stay current with codes and best practices. Review plans and specifications for service and small-project work to confirm feasibility and compliance. Assist with estimating service jobs and small projects, providing accurate scope and cost input. Support the scheduling and coordination of technicians and apprentices to optimize workflow and project timelines. Conduct final walkthroughs and quality assurance inspections to confirm that completed work meets standards and customer expectations. Train and mentor apprentice and journeyman plumbers, sharing technical knowledge and promoting safe, high-quality work practices. Essential Skills Active Minnesota plumbing license. Minimum of 7 years of plumbing experience, with a strong focus on service work. Extensive background in plumbing system troubleshooting and repair. Strong understanding of plumbing codes and regulations, including Minnesota Plumbing Code and local jurisdiction requirements. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents. Experience with construction supervision and oversight of plumbing installations. Proficiency in installing plumbing systems and components, including PVC piping. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to coordinate with inspectors and municipal authorities regarding permits and inspections. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience reviewing plans and specifications for service and small-project work. Ability to support scheduling and coordination of plumbing technicians and apprentices. Experience conducting final walkthroughs and quality assurance inspections. Demonstrated ability to train and mentor apprentices and journeyman plumbers. Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, team members, and inspectors. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
