Job Description
Summary of Position The class works under general supervision and requires thorough knowledge of and skill in the plumbing trade to install new plumbing, repair plumbing equipment, and maintain facilities and equipment. Incumbents perform the full range of plumbing duties.
Position Information Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
25% - Performs skilled installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and inspection of campus sanitary and storm drainage systems. Snakes and jets sanitary and storm drains, repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures such as toilets, urinals, lavatories, sinks, mop sinks, and floor drains. Performs invasive renovations to existing cast iron sanitary and storm drainage systems for retrofit to PVC. Installs new services as needed. Unclogs commodes, sinks, and sewage lines, replaces traps, valves and thermostats; maintains building facilities and equipment; checks pipes, plumbing, and fixtures for signs of corrosion and/or checks and lubricates pumps and valves; changes filters; makes minor repairs on steam lines as needed. 25% - Performs skilled installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and inspection of campus potable water systems. Works on domestic hot water heaters and heat exchangers, potable water mains, branch lines, faucets, lavatories, flushometers, backflow prevention devices (isolation and containment), hose bibs, softening systems, and filtration systems and others as required. Installs water, steam, and gas lines and new services as needed. 25% - Performs skilled installation, modification, maintenance, repair and inspection of piping systems containing various media including but not limited to compressed air, natural gas, argon, nitrogen, vacuum, water, and steam. Repairs piping systems of various types and works with construction materials such as black malleable, PVC, CPVC, PEX, copper, and stainless steel. Performs skilled installation, maintenance, and repair on valves, pumps, regulators, fittings, expansion tanks and shock arrestors and other piping accessories as needed. 15% - Maintains tools and equipment and creates material lists for assigned work orders and projects. Develops work orders for self-identified deficiencies and/or additional work discovered while working on assignments. Documents time and material usage on assigned work orders. Orders and submits requisitions for supplies, materials, and other equipment needed to perform assigned work. 10% - Assists general building maintenance staff with associated plumbing related duties. Reads blueprints and interprets construction documents. Prepare job estimates. Assists and consults with outside plumbing contractors. Attend project meetings and training courses as required.
Other Functions and Responsibilities:
Assists with training new hires. Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.
Equipment Operated:
Computer and all other standard office equipment. Snakes, jetters, hand/power tools, and other tools of the plumbing trade.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
At least a high school diploma or GED; at least five years of verifiable work experience in the plumbing trade; and a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master Plumber License. Backflow Prevention Device Testing Certification.
Physical Requirements:
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this position will perform very heavy work.
Very Heavy:
work involves exerting 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Unusual Working Conditions:
Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, high and low temperatures, loud noise, excrement, and hot and confined work area; may work outside in unpleasant conditions; may work on scaffolding or extension ladders.
