As our service and repair department continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Roofing Service Technician to join our team. This is not an entry-level roofing position. We are looking for a well-rounded roofer with extensive hands-on repair experience who understands how different roofing systems are installed, how they fail, and most importantly, how to properly diagnose and repair them. The right candidate must be comfortable working independently or with a small service crew, troubleshooting roofing problems without constant field supervision, and communicating directly and professionally with our customers. You must be proficient in diagnosing and repairing multiple roofing systems, including: Concrete and clay tile Asphalt composition shingles Modified bitumen / torch-applied roofing TPO PVC Built-up and other low-slope roofing systems Roof flashings, penetrations, drains, scuppers and related sheet-metal details Knowing how to install a roof is not enough for this position. A qualified Service Technician must understand how to investigate an existing roof, identify the actual source of a leak or failure, and determine the correct repair method. Responsibilities Diagnose roof leaks and determine the source of water intrusion. Inspect existing roofing systems for damage, deterioration and installation deficiencies. Determine the appropriate repair method based on the existing roofing system and conditions. Perform professional repairs on steep-slope and low-slope roofing systems. Repair and replace flashings, penetrations, underlayment, roofing materials and other components as required. Perform roof-related carpentry and wood repairs, including replacement of damaged roof decking, fascia, blocking and other wood components encountered during repair work. Measure, cut, bend and fabricate common sheet-metal flashing components required for roof repairs, including roof-to-wall, counterflashing, pipe/penetration and other field-fabricated flashing details. Perform preventive roof maintenance. Identify additional conditions that should be brought to the customer's attention. Take clear before, during and after photographs of work performed. Provide accurate job notes and communicate field conditions to our service department. Determine materials and tools required to properly complete assigned repairs. Maintain a clean and professional jobsite. Communicate directly with homeowners, property managers and commercial customers regarding roof conditions, repair work and jobsite questions in a clear and professional manner. Perform all work in accordance with manufacturer requirements, applicable roofing standards and company safety procedures. Follow OSHA and company fall-protection requirements. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of professional roofing experience. Strong roof-repair and leak-diagnosis experience required. Proficient with both steep-slope and low-slope roofing systems. Proficient in roof-related carpentry and wood replacement. Proficient in basic sheet-metal fabrication and field-fabricated roof flashing details. Ability to recognize improper roofing details and determine the correct repair. Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions. English proficiency required; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to communicate professionally with customers and office staff. Comfortable documenting work with photographs and written job notes. Must be dependable and report to work consistently and on time. Must work well independently and as part of a team. Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must have the personal hand tools appropriate for an experienced roofing technician. Physical Requirements Ability to regularly lift and carry 50+ lbs. Ability to repeatedly bend, climb, kneel and work from elevated surfaces. Ability to safely set up, climb and work from extension ladders ranging from 28' to 40'. Ability to work on steep and low-slope roofing systems. Ability to work outdoors in San Diego weather conditions, including periods of extreme heat. What We're Looking For We are looking for a roofer who knows how to troubleshoot , not simply someone who can replace roofing materials. A strong candidate should be able to arrive at a service call, evaluate the roof and surrounding conditions, identify the likely cause of the problem, and perform or recommend a repair that addresses the cause—not just the symptom . Because our Service Technicians work directly with homeowners, property managers and commercial customers, customer communication is an important part of this position. The technician must be able to professionally explain what they are seeing, what work is being performed and communicate relevant jobsite information to the customer and our office. Professionalism, integrity and quality workmanship are essential. Our Service Technicians represent Premium Roof Services in the field every day. Pay is commensurate with demonstrated roofing knowledge, repair experience and skill level. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
