POSITION SUMMARY
The Board Treasurer is an officer of the Uzazi Village Board of Directors responsible for supporting financial oversight, accountability, and responsible stewardship of the organization's resources. The Treasurer works with the Board Chair, Executive Director, and appropriate financial staff or service providers to help the Board understand the organization's financial position and fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities. As a member of the Board, the Treasurer participates in strategic decision-making, organizational oversight, and efforts that advance Uzazi Village's mission to improve maternal health and support families and communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Oversight Review and monitor the organization's financial position, including income, expenses, cash flow, and budget performance. Review regular financial reports and present or summarize key financial information to the Board. Help the Board understand significant financial trends, risks, and concerns. Participate in the development, review, and monitoring of the annual organizational budget. Monitor organizational spending to ensure alignment with the approved budget and mission. Support appropriate financial controls, accountability, and responsible use of organizational resources. Review financial policies and recommend updates to strengthen financial practices. Board & Financial Governance Serve as a resource for the Board on financial matters. Work with the Executive Director and financial staff, bookkeeper, accountant, or other financial professionals as appropriate. Participate in financial planning and strategic decision-making. Assist with the review of annual financial statements, audits, tax filings, or other financial reports as applicable. Help ensure the organization maintains appropriate financial records and follows applicable nonprofit requirements. Participate in Board committees, financial reviews, or special projects as needed. Board Member Responsibilities Attend and actively participate in Board meetings. Support the mission, vision, and values of Uzazi Village. Participate in strategic planning and organizational decision-making. Support fundraising, resource development, and community engagement efforts. Serve as a positive ambassador for Uzazi Village. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment regarding financial and organizational information. Act in the best interest of Uzazi Village and the families and communities it serves.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Commitment to the mission and values of Uzazi Village. Ability to review financial information, ask thoughtful questions, and seek clarification when needed. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Dependability and willingness to actively participate in Board responsibilities. Ability to communicate financial information clearly to individuals with varying levels of financial experience. Preferred Experience in one or more of the following is helpful: Nonprofit Board or committee service Accounting, bookkeeping, finance, banking, or financial management Nonprofit financial management or budgeting Business or organizational leadership Grant or program financial oversight Healthcare or community-based organizations Maternal health or public health Previous Board or nonprofit finance experience is preferred but not required.
