Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Purchasing Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and leading supply chain initiatives and activities, including all aspects of supply chain procurement, material cost reduction, supplier negotiations, support quality and delivery improvements, and supply base management
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates new project preparation in cooperation with engineering and other departments to ensure timely execution of product sourcing activities. Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates price and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness. Able to evaluate all items on supplier quotes thoroughly including but not limited to material costs, press size, processing rates to determine if the supplier is competitive. Comparing current rates from existing suppliers to new suppliers to confirm competitiveness Gives more than one valid sourcing option on RFQ Summaries. Have a strong understanding of current supplier capabilities to propose the best possible supplier for quoting purposes Able to negotiate standard rates with potential suppliers that are improved when reviewed against current suppliers. Capable to review a drawing and determine the process steps required to produce the part. Works directly with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics, etc. Understanding of existing suppliers that are underutilized and making recommendations for termination of business, growth or maintaining. Find and develop new suppliers for potential new business Coordinates quality issues and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers. Capable to follow-up on open quality issues including countermeasure activity implementation and recommendations for countermeasures while at a supplier's facility. Visit supplier's facilities as necessary to qualify them as new sources and assist in resolution of production, design, quality, and/or delivery problems. Able to recommend and track level-up activities for items that need improvement. Support manager in meeting departmental goals and implementing cost saving ideas. Capable to negotiate cost reduction activities (APR) independent of support. Capable to audit a supplier and offer APR ideas to implement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Good computer skills Required - ability to write and verify functional formula in excel Good working knowledge of manufacturing systems, processes, and materials Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks Ability to analyze data and plan improvement activities Ability to implement improvement activities at supplier's locations. Possess good verbal and written communication skills Must have the ability to interact and understand people
EDUCATION &/OR EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent Bachelor's degree with emphasis in business, economics, or engineering helpful Required - At least two years of purchasing, preferable automotive manufacturing environment Quality or Technical experience is helpful
