Electric Time Company

Buyer/Purchasing Agent

Job Description

We are seeking a Buyer/Purchasing Agent to support a custom manufacturing environment. This position requires someone who is comfortable purchasing materials and components for low-volume, made-to-order products where requirements can vary from project to project.
Responsibilities include:
Purchasing raw materials, fabricated and machined components, electrical components, hardware, and production supplies. Reviewing engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and specifications to determine purchasing requirements. Obtaining and comparing supplier quotations for custom and standard components. Sourcing vendors capable of producing custom fabricated and machined parts to drawing and specification. Negotiating pricing, lead times, and delivery requirements. Issuing and managing purchase orders from placement through delivery. Expediting materials and components to meet changing production schedules and customer requirements. Working closely with engineering and production when drawings, specifications, quantities, or delivery requirements change. Identifying alternate suppliers and sourcing solutions when materials or components are difficult to obtain. Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and addressing delivery, quality, or pricing issues. Balancing cost, quality, lead time, and availability when making purchasing decisions.
Required skills:
Purchasing or buying experience in a custom manufacturing or similar environment. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications. Familiarity with fabricated sheet metal, machined parts, raw materials, electrical components, and commercial hardware. Strong vendor sourcing and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple purchase requirements for different custom projects at the same time. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with engineering and production. The ideal candidate will understand that custom manufacturing requires flexibility and attention to detail. They must be able to react quickly to changing requirements, locate difficult-to-source components, and help keep projects moving through production.
