Position SummaryThe Purchasing Junior Buyer is responsible for executing day-to-day purchasing decisions to support mill operations. This role makes buying and negotiation decisions within defined category strategies, pricing bands, and delegation-of-authority limits, ensuring continuity of supply, service performance, and compliance with procurement policies.

This position is onsite at the mill and works closely with Operations, Planning, Maintenance, and approved suppliers.

Key ResponsibilitiesPurchasing & ExecutionDemonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.

Determine order timing and quantities within defined min/max and inventory targetsSelect suppliers from approved supplier lists for RFPsMonitor order confirmations, delivery performance, and material availabilityCoordinate with Purchasing Assistants for PO execution and system accuracySupplier Interaction & NegotiationNegotiate pricing, delivery timing, and MOQs within approved guardrailsCommunicate demand changes and operational needs to suppliersResolve routine supplier issues (late deliveries, shortages, order discrepancies)Escalate issues or exceptions beyond authority limitsMill CoordinationPartner with mill operations, maintenance, and planning teams to understand requirementsSupport short-term operational needs while adhering to procurement strategyIdentify risks to material availability and escalate appropriatelyCompliance & ControlsOperate fully within procurement policies, category strategies, and DOA limitsMaintain accurate documentation to support audit and compliance requirementsAdhere to contract terms and approved commercial conditionsDecision AuthorityBuying and negotiation decisions within predefined parametersNo authority to change supplier strategy, add/remove suppliers, or deviate from contract termsKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)On-time material availability for assigned scopeExpedite frequencySupplier on-time delivery (OTD)Inventory adherenceZero policy or audit violationsQualificationsBachelors degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)13 years of purchasing, supply chain, or manufacturing experienceERP/MRP system experience preferredStrong communication and organizational skillsAbility to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentAttributes for SuccessHard work tackle each task with determination, passion and creativity; the willingness to put in whatever effort is required to successfully complete the job at hand.
