Job Description

The Tack Buyer manages inventory and purchasing decisions for assigned product categories across our retail stores, website, and roadshows. This role combines a strong understanding of horses and western tack with sales analysis, forecasting, vendor management, and product development. The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, and comfortable taking ownership of a category while working closely with suppliers and internal teams.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage, plan, and track inventory levels for assigned product categories
  • Create and manage purchase orders
  • Build and maintain strong vendor and manufacturer relationships
  • Analyze sales, inventory, and trends to support profitable purchasing decisions
  • Forecast demand and identify inventory opportunities and risks
  • Research new products, brands, and emerging western industry trends
  • Manage web products, item information, and product data accuracy
  • Assist with merchandising, catalog pages, and product presentations
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Marketing, Operations, eCommerce, and Store teams
  • Travel occasionally to markets, trade shows, vendor meetings, and western events
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Genuine passion for the western lifestyle and equine industry
  • Strong working knowledge of western tack, horse equipment, and how to properly saddle a horse
  • Experience in one or more western disciplines such as team roping, calf roping, barrel racing, ranching, cutting, reined cow horse, ranch riding, or similar events
  • Ability to understand the purpose and differences between common tack and equipment, including saddles, bits, ropes, pads, and protective gear
  • Curious and eager to learn disciplines and product categories that may be less familiar
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and sorting/filtering
  • Comfortable using sales and inventory data to make decisions
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and time-management skills
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Quick learner who adapts well to new systems and processes
  • Positive, gritty, problem-solving mindset with strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Retail, merchandising, inventory planning, purchasing, or buying experience is a plus
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred OR equivalent industry experience
  • Purchasing, merchandising, inventory planning, or buying experience preferred
  • Equivalent experience in the western or equine industry will be considered
  • A combination of relevant education and experience is welcome
Physical Requirements:
  • This is primarily an office-based position requiring prolonged periods sitting at a computer
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
  • Occasional overnight travel and some evening or weekend work may be required during markets, shows, and peak seasons

$50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
